You didn't say anything about render, I just thought you meant you had a bunch of nearly-finished tracks. So I couldn't figure out what the 'final' hold-up would have been.

I always forget that you're a MIDI dude. I don't use enough MIDI to need anything beyond what Tracktion offers.

As for the Racks and multi-outs, a simple solution is to not play with the toys so much and just get to the tracks.

Sorry didn't mean to be stroppy. I do a lot o midi comps. Audio very seldom - I should play more but I am out of practice having no live muscians to play with these days. As I use a lot of multitimbral multi-out VSTis, racks are necessary - impossible and a PITA but the only implementation for ST2, BFD etc.

I guess Tracktion is not a good fit for me.

As a non-MIDI guy, I guess I still just don't see what the issue is with multi-out VSTi. :D seems dead easy to me!

Drop it into a rack and you have 2 options:

1. Do ALL your effects within the rack and output to a stereo pair. It's getting mixed this way in the end anyhow. ;)

2. Drop it into a rack and then drag copies to each of your (for example) 10 different tracks, setting the outputs accordingly or just routing it to a stereo pair and rely on MIDI channels (which will only give you 16 discrete MIDI tracks this way) to do the 'routing' for you.

or, the non- rack way, option 3:

3. (my way... the lazy way!) just use it as a stereo-out instrument and use multiple instances and just render or freeze when resources get hogged. :D

 I guess it's simple for you. But I often mess it up esp at assigning inputs. It is very awkward I find. The way the zooming works has me in fits - I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one:

I also agree with 'Beardedone' - the way expand/contract works seems less than usable at times - I have the EXACT same experience - I end up going to XT/Live as I get increasingly distressed (!) using the current midi implementation.

I have to admit, I hate the MIDI zooming, too. I rarely use MIDI, but it's very clunky when I do it.

Don't worry, Gordon... when people explain eXT stuff to me that is supposedly simple, I don't get it either. To me, eXT is completely inscrutable as a sequencer, though wonderful as an instrument.

Funny isn't it. To each his own.

HI

A few things I did not discover for a while in XT which really would improve Tracktions expand/contract:

You place your cursor over the time-scale/ruler

Move the mouse scroll wheel up to contract - down to expand.

Lower the cursor onto the arrange page and do the same to scroll left or right.

Hold right mouse button down and move 360 degrees around the arrange page.

Very simple but powerfull for getting around the arrangement area and into a midi or audio clip - at the right point.

If only XT had Live/Logic type automation - AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Happiness is a FR away .....

(talk about hypocricy)

Flipper.
