Unfortunately, as any other good thing in life, it eventually ends. :(

Let's just hope somebody else with similar passion will pick this thing up and continue the revolution.

If you look back at the glowing endorsements I wrote about Tracktion 1 on this very forum a year ago... or if you spoke to the 40+ people who bought Tracktion upon my recommendation... you'd find that some things DO change :(

I wish it were different too.

Just this week I went back into a school that purchased T1 on my recommendation last year but did not upgrade to T2. I found myself back working in T1 doing some multitrack audio... and REALLY loving it! It reminded me of everything that attracted me to Tracktion in the first place, and was a breath of fresh air.

I know that T2 is working well for many here but for others of us - me included - the GUI freezes and audio dropouts really are a showstopper. So I would simply love it if the nameless Mackie programmers now working on this could get the audio stability back up to the excellent standards that Jules set. And from the various PMs I have received over recent months and posts I have read here, I know that there are a lot of people who feel the same way.

If Raw Material doesn't even work on Tracktion any more, why do we come here to discuss it? Shouldn't we be on a site monitored by Mackie (is there one?).

Yes there is one here...

Unless Mackie no longer monitor that forum. Of course people can and still discuss issues here. :)

Edit: Mackie of course have a Tracktion website and a forum I assume you meant forum...? :?:

Holy moly, I didn't see the 1st 2 pages of this thread. A few thoughts:

- headquest, surely you realize that your piano analogy is flawed. If you don't, I'd be happy to tell you why. <chuckle>

- rockstar, I'd like that feature, too. In fact, it's probably my number 2 request now (next to folder tracks) but it's not the be-all and end-all of sequencers. I occasionally have use for time stretch (and headquest with his Ableton Live is going to prove to me the kinds of cool sh** you can do with it) but I have another novel idea: choose the correct tempo for your song to begin with, and record to that tempo.

I know, I know... that doesn't cover some of timestretching's other functionality, but then Tracktion wasn't really intended to cover every base, either. It's when a sequencer tries to be all things for all people (and NOT when distribution gets sold to another company) that it becomes feature-bloated.

The new team that's helping aren't a bunch of nameless faceless morons straight out of "Coding 101", either. It's like if you don't have a name to put on them or a face to put that name with, you think that they're just formless entities (or non-entities) out there.

Ever consider the possibility that in that group, there might be a few discovering Tracktion, Juce, and other new concepts, and being excited and inspired by it? And then THEIR code would be reflected in the overall vibe and direction of Tracktion? Is it unreasonable to think that there could be creative thinkers and genius coders in that bunch, who could solve "reverb tail cut off with dither" bugs more quickly and efficiently than Jules himself?

I'm not saying it's a fact, but it's certainly a possibility worth entertaining. What IS a fact, regardless of speculation on their levels of inspiration and ability, is that they ARE actual people who are actively involved in T's refinement and development on a daily basis. Some of them are married, some of them are hangover-type blokes, and some of them are shy reserved bookworms. Some of them might crush beer cans on their foreheads on Saturday night while others are checking out the latest in haute culture. But they're all actual people who are ACTUALLY working on T.

Although a good "soundbite", this is actually nonsense when you think about it more closely (no offense intended though dj )

Let me illustrate:

Jules is a programmer, and he created the JUCE library and also Tracktion (and of course the new PPMulator). He is capable of all these things.

I have a giant room, literally FULL of ducks. There are nearly a thousand of them. Some of them are wearing ties, and some have sophisticated duckwear-suits on. They are all here to help work on Tracktion and improve it. They have been taught the basics of how to program, and thus are perfectly suited for the task and this analogy. However, despite the fact that there are a great number of ducks in the room, and despite the reasonable precision with which they can strike the keys with their beaks, the end result is actually considerably worse than when Jules was working on the program (by himself!!).
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

I guess the answer was obvious that Mackie have their own forums, but I wonder if this is really the one where most people hang out, because of Raw Material having handled things in the past.

Does anyone know if Mackie people lurk here?

i'm fully aware that T2 has bugs in, and i'm facing one at the moment that is particularly pissing me off. my gripe is that hq's post is inconsistent and self contradictory. That's actually really just one point made twice, but i like the effect.

Good question. I think Beno represents Mackie but beyond that...not sure.

why, because he speaks the truth?

Tracktion 2 is the most bug ridden and unreliable daw i have EVER used, even worse than Ntrack, and that's saying ALOT.

There is so much, workflow wise, to love about the program, and that's why people try to perservere.
I hate to say it but that sounds about right. Maybe we need to do a mass mailing to Mackie, since Jules has let us know he is not the one to come crying to. They have a great product in design that needs some functionality gaps filled in and must have a [voice of Captain Picard] "level one diagnostic" performed to net as many of the bugs as possible. I think a version 2.1 in the near future is not an unreasonable request.

Yes, BUT--

Let's say that Jules and Mackie got together in a room full of ducks. Jules or a Mackie guy scratches his head and says, "rather a lot of them, aren't there?"

A select group of ducks are chosen. Let's say 5 (I have no idea how many billed waterfowl Mackie actually employs). These 5 ducks have worked together on a team before, and therefore work well with each other. They quack politely as Jules (over the period of several weeks) explains the ins and outs of Tracktion and Juce.

When Jules isn't around, those intrigued ducks ALSO poke around on their own, and things start to gel. They become very familiar with the entire program.

So, they all sit in a room together, each with a computer. Daisy quacks to Donald, "OK, I'm going to have a peek at dither thing and see what I can come up with." Donald says, "Perfect, 'cause I was just peeking into render." Daisy says, "OK, but remember that object X from dither sends information to object Y in render, so let's stay in touch as we go."

They then work at their things, swivelling their lily-pad shaped chairs around to each others' monitors occasionally so that they know what they're doing.

Meanwhile, Uncle Scrooge is working on something completely unrelated-- he's sorting out the Colour Scheme editor so that 'base' text doesn't have to be black. He lets them know, but other than that he's on his own.

The more time passes, the more they're all familiar with the program, each others' strengths and weaknesses, and are all working productively at the same time, without crossed purposes.

After a while, Jules looks around at his room full of ducks and thinks, "Heck, I didn't figure out that render bug, but Daisy's done a helluva job. I'm going to work on that text thing. HRm... Uncle Scrooge is already done."

You see?

A group really CAN be better than an individual.

Or, a less wacky analogy:

I'll pit a trained individual rower against a bunch of kids on a boat. But I'll pit a team of trained rowers against an individual rower any day.
