I occasionally have use for time stretch (and headquest with his Ableton Live is going to prove to me the kinds of cool sh** you can do with it) but I have another novel idea: choose the correct tempo for your song to begin with, and record to that tempo.

I know, I know... that doesn't cover some of timestretching's other functionality, but then Tracktion wasn't really intended to cover every base, either. It's when a sequencer tries to be all things for all people (and NOT when distribution gets sold to another company) that it becomes feature-bloated.

Greg,

This would be a good point with the exception that Tracktion 1 was sold as having time stretch as a feature.

It is implemented, but we all know it's usefulness is for nothing more than a sound-smearing effect.

Your 'novel' idea of recording at tempo doesn't fit with my mental model of using time stretch.

I've got 4 disks of drum loops from Beta Monkey. I have my head full of songs that need a good drummer, at tempos that I decide sound correct for the song. Beta Monkey tempos <> tempos of the songs in my head = I need time-stretch; well implemented, as in other sequencers of the same magnitude in price as Tracktion; as advertised as a feature in Tracktion from the beginning.

This is not an unreasonable request. I'm still using Tracktion. I would much rather see them solve this problem with Tracktion than nearly anything else - particularly compared to issues like 'which freeware VSTi will we buy and bundle with the next release' like they did with T2.

These talented folks at Mackie that you refer to - I hope that time stretch, that is musically usable as in nearly all other audio sequencers on the market at any price point, is in their top 5 of things-to-do list.

But, since we aren't privy to that information, we have to sit and wait and make do with something else.

Heh, this thread's too heated for me to keep up:

The people who are crying "bug ridden" are oblivious. I haven't had a crash in ages, my GUI is working smoothly again after the last public release, the rendering issue was resolved.

It's like you forget that bugs have been fixed and assume that it's still a problem. :?

I don't persevere because of T's workflow only. I persevere because it works for me. This is partially a support forum, of course you're going to hear more from the people having issues (many of which may be hardware or config related) than from the people working away blissfully without any problems.

If you look at the eXT forum, there are THOUSANDS of bug reports. That's because they have an active user base, though, not because eXT is a particularly bug-ridden POS.

They absolutely do. Beno is a moderator, and as you are surely aware, posts here fairly regularly.

Others have announced their presence in the past, and at least a few are lurking very quietly, I'm sure.

Whether they use ducks, geese, X the Owl from Mr. Rogers or 1700 clones of the San Diego Chicken, I don't think it matters because they have no choice. Jules said in this thread he's out of it. Mackie need to adapt to being a serious s/w development company and get people to do the required projects. Try calling Bombay, i don't know....

rockstar: I can't argue. I have Beta Monkey loops that are sometimes the wrong tempo, too. My workaround is to set them to tempo in the Plasma Express that I got for free a few years back. But I cannot and WILL NOT argue that I'd not like the feature, and what's more-- I DO want it for the exact same reason as you. ;) Like I said, it's my number 2 most-needed. :D

Why do you believe they don't have those people?

Well, I'm not sure I don't believe it but, well so far they have only chipped away at the bugs.

I'm sure they have people but maybe they need more.

If they said "ok, we want to rule the world" they could. It can't possibly take that much.
It's been a little weird. I'm not sure what their s/w strategy is. They want people to pay $45 hundred million for AcumaLabs plugs, then they sell T2 for the cost fo a cheap date and then seem to put it on the back burner when it is turning into a popular product. I guess maybe they'll surprise us soon with some big improvements. Or...not?
