Actually, Rob, he's not terribly upset (!) but the signal-to-noise ratio of the forum often now increases to the point where it can be a long process to actually address genuine individual problems without getting embroiled in some life-sapping side-issues...

...and yes, PPMulator is specialised, but then again, some of the original Tracktion features were unbelievably specialised too, and we all had time to discuss and mull over the minutiae of those features back then, didn't we..!

Anyway, it's past my bedtime...

I don't really post much here anymore. I come in to speak my bug reports, which lately have increased since T2. I'll admit, there are some stability issues that have actually made me at times use PT for some things I would have normally used T2 for. So my time here is spent telling these issues, and not trying too much in the way or problem solving. I have not enough time to deal with crap like this. But for what it's worth, I'll post here.

I have NO doubt that the new developers are competant. And I still think that Jules has some say-so in the program. And I believe that multiple developers can be good. But here's what I personally believe is the problem in this forum.

I think Beno has done a fantastic job of everything. I would hate to be in his spot, dealing with what he probably deals with. However, as of late, updates are scarce. I'm not talking about software updates. I'm talking about communication with the users.

I do think that everything here is getting read by someone who matters. But the small percentage of the user base that does come here wants to hear more. They want to hear just a few words of what is being worked on. Or asking more questions from the users.

I think it would work WONDERS for Mackie and this board to just post a weekly update thread from Beno saying what is on the dockett for that week. Just say what is being worked on or considered. Or maybe "the next release is coming along, but we ran into some hitches." It seems lately that we have very little communication concerning the progress of Tracktion. Again, Beno DOES post here often. But it's rarely to let people know what it happening. It's not his fault. He can't say anything without permission. So that's what needs to change. Give Beno a bit more power to share. It won't hurt anything at all.

Also, and I think this may help more than anything. Give the new developers a username here and let them introduce themselves. Let them post here what their job is and let them personally see or respond to bug requests and feature requests. Just a few minutes at a time to get an idea of what people are wanting. Direct communication is better than relaying the info any day.

I'm not leaving Tracktion. I have no doubt that everything will turn out fine. But right now, so much is falling behind. Plug-ins that are months late, and only one small update since initial release. I'm confident this will all be sorted, but communication of things isn't there right now.

yes philip, and the "developer" would be a one-man show, who would incorporate the "helpful comments...in its future development" within a couple of days, or perhaps a week, whilst maintaining a dialogue with the users.

so I'm not really sure what your point is.

I'm not knocking jules, btw. I was just surprised to read his surprisingly casual "oh, i don't really do Tracktion these days" post. And if I was knocking jules, surely I wouldn't be so discouraged to discover that he was no longer "at the helm" (unless I've seriously misinterpreted his post, in which case, of course, I apologise).

GOOD post ...

... and one i agree with most of ... TBH im personally not sure mackie are dealing with the marketing of tracktion 2 (to a specialist audience like KVRs at least) in the right way at all ... like you i think AT LEAST a regular 'hi folks - this is what were doing at the minute' kind of thread (read only ??? ) would help consumer confidence no end ...

... but it IS mackies decision in the end and if nothing else i can assure you there ARE people important to T2s future watching us here ... and there ARE people TRYING to give hints as to the level of active development on T2.x as far as they can without getting a slapped wrist ...

... to a certain extent i have an 'insiders' view but i DO understand your (and other users) frustrations at the communications situation ... just wish i sometimes had more influence with the mackie marketing team (or at least freedom to speak here) ...

I think that brings this whole project full circle?

[Jules's motive for making Tracktion in the first place was that he found n-track too buggy and that he could do better (for those that don't know)]

I thought it ironic at least

(how buggy is n-track anyway?)

I've no doubt that regular appearances by more Mackie personnel and more explicit information about updates (either in progress or planned) would do a lot to ease a lot of people's minds.

I'm just not in the position to make that decision or even influence that decision, so in the meantime I try my best to diffuse (for free, I don't even get paid!) reactionary comments that read like (whether intended or not), "Wow, look at this post by Jules, Tracktion is DOOMED!"). Maybe it bends people's noses out of shape from time to time that I've taken it upon myself. I certainly am aware that I have the option to just say NOTHING, and offend nobody's sensibilities.

But it's not in me to watch ONE set of sensibilities run crazy while I happen to have a different (and sometimes dimetrically (sp?) opposed) set of sensibilities. I'd rather try to balance out the big picture a bit.

For example, I don't find T2 to be buggy at all. And when people just STATE, "T2 is buggy", there are bound to be people who will believe it at face value. I'd rather present the other side, which is that I and many other people are still running bug-free since 1.x.

I couldn't get it to do anything without going tits up. And when it didn't go tits up...I just couldn't get it to do anything.

I'd (broadly) agree with that.

"Let's go"

"We can't"

"Why not?"

Is it a covert marketing team at Mackie?

Why are they so terrified to engage and inform their loyal, er, loyalish, Tracktion users? Oh, wait. No one is permitted to tell us.

Back to the conspiracy marketing theories...
