Yeah, I'm confused about that one also.

I think OUR jobs in this whole things is just to give Mackie a chance now to poke in here and ease our minds a bit. It IS a big developement that Jules isn't primarily in charge of things, at least according to what he said. So when something like that happens, Mackie should introduce us. It's hard to doubt people that we know as opposed to putting down some "ghost" developers.

And Greg, I agree that most people just get bent out of shape with the slightest movement of procedures and comments. But to be fair, this isn't slight. It's pretty big news that nobody has informed us of.

Now, if it were Cubase or such, and nobody really knew from the beginning who the devs were, it wouldn't matter. But this is our beloved Jules, who many of us go way back with, and who has given us something that nobody else could. It's big news when his pet project for so long is put in other hands, since most, if not all of us, jumped on board as a result of his great works and ideas.

So while I'm not jumping to idiotic conclusions like "Tracktion is DOOMED", I do think it's fair for Mackie to chime in and give us a word or two about what's going on.

I NEVER used to be one to complain. Greg, you know as well as anyone, that I always stood up for Tracktion and Mackie and Jules, and would come to their defense. We were called "fanboys" together on a couple occasions. But I'm just being fair here. I'm 100% agreeing with you though.

I guess when I was saying that people shouldn't freak out so much, it's just my way of approaching the information presented. I didn't mean to imply it's not a big shift, but the way *I* saw the information presented, Jules was saying (and he even added this with an overt clarifying statement! Why hasn't anyone re-quoted the clarifying statement?) that he's less involved in a hands-on way but that a team of competent and BUSY coders is in place and moving forward.

It would've been more alarming if he had said, "Well, I'm not involved, and it doesn't look like Mackie's doing anything, either."

Ya know?

But in the interest of fairness, I can't help but agree:

- it's definitely not "slight"
- Mackie could definitely chime in more than they do. As a teacher, when you have a student with special needs, you don't just say "Well if Stewie can't swim, he'll sink," you try to modify your approach so that Stewie's needs are being met.

Mackie needs to modify their PR with the forum-going Tracktion user base (remembering that we're actually only a small part of that user base, despite what we may think) so that its special needs are being met. ;)

Ya know, I've been reading this thread all day...it's like a train wreck...you just can't stop looking no matter how ugly it gets :bang:

I never had T1, love T2 and must not be using it correctly because it's not at all buggy for me :dog:

Since I develop custom software for a living (not audio software dammit) I would hate to think that no one has any confidence in my ability to focus and try to improve the stuff I'm working on...

So, whether or not you want to give Mackie a break, give us lowly programmers a little credit..

Trust me.

Several people have mentioned the "good old days" of pre-Mackie Tracktion. Well, back in those days, a developer could post a link to a new bit of software - like a state-of-the-art VST metering plugin, for instance - and everyone on the forum would download it, try it out and come back with helpful comments (both positive and negative) which would aid in its future development, benefiting everyone.

Shame. But those days really have gone now, it seems...

Philip

We agree on this - but I bet we don't agree on that Jules f**ked it up himself...

(or at least he took away the first few bricks from the wall which then of course crushed down (never to be build up again) ;-))

hi everybody - I see you had a nice party in here while I was having a bit of a life for a change...

Here at Kvr we always give programmers credit. It's not like you're gonna run up a big VISA bill on cold pizza and warm beer. :P

no jules, no updates, no communication between mackie and the userbase, no bugfixes, no future for tracktion.
and a bug is a bug, even if it doesn't show up on everyones system (for example: you can't use tracktion with more than 30 tracks on a high resolution display 1600x1200 because the gui is too slow for that)

and maybe some of the ever positiv thinkers come to the conclusion: things can also be bad sometimes.

i don't trust mackie because they haven't done much for it.

Yes, of course they can. However:

- Jules just appeared, and has always been there. He merely stated that it's in a diminished capacity because the other programmers are more than capable of dealing with T

- Beno and other Mackoids have communicated in an ongoing basis. Beno, pretty much every day or every other day. Maybe he likes it, maybe it's in his job description. But you can bet your ass that it's NOT in the other programmer's job description, "Visit KvR and other internet forums and make those people feel better." They're getting paid to program, not to surf the forum. If you think Mackie should pay someone to be on the forum, that's a fair enough opinion, but it's only an opinion and it's certainly NOT common business practice. If you have problems with T, they DO have paid staff that will answer technical support questions. They haven't failed to live up to ANY responsibility. I would love to see one or two more Mackoids here, and communicating more, but it's probably not in their job description, and they probably have better things to do with their time. Unlike me. ;) Heck, they could pay ME to do it! :D

- There are plenty of bugfixes. It's up for debate whether they should release the bugfixes more quickly as they come or not. On one side, you'd be more 'aware' of it, which would take the heat off them. On the other hand, you KNOW that there'd be people saying, "why bother releasing this if X, Y, and Z aren't fixed yet? It's more like a beta!" It's a no-win situation for Mackie, as far as people like you are concerned, aldi. So, instead of worrying about whether you're happy or not, they're proceeding in one of the only 2 ways they could, and waiting until a release can be called "stable" before they send it out.

But that doesn't mean it's not happening. And the last "stable" release was what... a month ago? Less? Hardly an eternity.

- No future for Tracktion? That's just absurd conjecture. If there was no future, Mackie wouldn't even HAVE a paid team of developers and marketers working on it. Tracktion ads weren't cheap for them. Don't be dense.

- a bug is a bug, but a technical issue isn't always software-related. If it doesn't show up on everyone's system, it's more likely to be a system problem. I don't have a monitor that big to test your theory, but I know that I for one have had better GUI performance lately. Perhaps your PCI latency needs sorting out.

Maybe some of the negative thinkers can come to the conclusion once in a while: sometimes it's not as bad as you think.

It's only a piece of software, for crying out loud. Why do you care so much? I mostly argue because I can't stand seeing such blatant inconsistency in logic and intelligent thought, not because I'm particularly bent on "big upping" Tracktion. I love Tracktion, but if it was shit-canned by RMS or Mackie tomorrow, I would still make music with it until I decided I wanted something different and in current development. It wouldn't change the fact that I'm a musician who writes songs (of questionable quality).

I don't know if you believe this or not: it takes less energy to be positive than negative. Try it for a change. ;)

Been There. Left PARIS. In flames.

At least Creative didn't buy Tracktion. There. That's my positive thought for the day.

I am on the sooner rather than later side of the releases / fixes. Mackie seems to prefer the better late than on-time release cycle so prevelant in the sofware biz.

@pHz - yes, it must be frustrating for you, having insider information, and not being able to share. Let me tell you though, it's even MORE frustrating having you and Lunch constantly saying "trust us, it's being worked on" when you aren't allowed to tell us what you know about it...

Moi? I hardly ever mention having insider information. :D

Even if I were one of you plebes (just kidding!) I would still exercise logical thinking about it. I mean, Jules says there are programmers. Beno says there's development. We DID get a fairly recent update (not recent compared to eXT users, but not horrible), and there has been a big marketing push, including an obvious presence at various trade shows. ;)

It doesn't take an insider to conclude that Tracktion is being worked on!

But trust me, it is! <Joke!! Well, true, but I'm playin' wit' ya!>

Despite how my posts may seem negative towards Mackie, I am not. My purpose was to relate what is happening to everyone. I do think some people need to chill. Aldi, you seem to take every jab you can at Mackie. Hey, you didn't have to buy it. And you don't have to keep using it. Mackie isn't going anywhere.

Mackie is ran by humans, with families, with other lives outside of Mackie, and with needs of their own. I'm sure there is nobody there wanting to do their worst because they don't care. It's absurd to think so. Mackie has done things for Tracktion that Jules never could. How many magazine articles and ads have YOU paid for recently? Any idea what they cost?

So to say that Mackie is screwing things isn't fair also. I do think there are things they can do to improve(see above). But some people cry out for things that really may never be. They criticize at every opportunity.

My position? I'm on board, and really have high hopes for Mackie and Tracktion. I likely won't change. You bought Tracktion in it's current state, and if you didn't like it, you had the choice not to buy. Beyond what you bought, after trying the demo, Mackie was under NO obligation to give you anything more, except maybe the new plugs coming since that was in the ads. But other than that, you paid for what you demo'd. The program hasn't changed.

Now, let's just chill and wait for some word from Mackie on things. It'll be alright, honest!

Hmm. This news kinda sucks, but then again, T1.6 does everything I want, so... eh. The real question is what's going to happen to JUCE. :)
