I bet I'm not the only one who thinks that Philip would never apologize to a customer (or a potential customer in this case) just out of professional politeness if he wouldn't regard the critique as being adequeate, am I?
He ain't exactly what I'd call an ass-wiper, is he?

well, indeed there should be a price on that page, but there's also a price absolutely everywhere else referring to it (except the hmmm thread... but that's not really about anything anymore now is it?)
so for one to be royally miffed about it suggests a portion of applied whinge.

Firstly, I apologise to those concerned for mis-titling the thread - it should have read RMS Shop. My error.haydxn wrote:no offense, but this thread is a completely pointless whinge! the kvr news item of the ppmulator has a price on it. the post jules made has a price on it. the website homepage news item has a price on it too, but you're right in that the main ppmulator page is missing a price. but it's written everywhere else, you just weren't looking properly :p
To answer haydxn, although everything he says may be true, it doesn't negate my original complaint - and a complaint it was, not a 'whinge'.
Just because there are other threads/webpages which show the information, that's no reason for it not to be shown on a page whose sole purpose is to persuade people to buy the product.
As it happens, I picked the link up from the "PPM, Best Use" thread - where no mention is made of the price. However, I could have picked up a mention almost anywhere, not necessarily around here. I might have used a search engine that threw up the RMS page - and I still wouldn't have known the cost of the product (I tried this with Google and it took me to the very page I was criticising). I could have seen a mention of it in any one of several newsgroups, etc., etc. If, by whatever means, I get to the sales pitch, I'd like to know the price without having to hunt for it.
This was the fundamental point of my post, one which I am pleased to see has been taken by Philip, as the responsible party.
I do understand the point made by TechnoWeeniePas, regarding modern marketing techniques - but that's not to say I like them and I said so (in a roundabout way). If I walk into my local baker. I don't expect him to ask me for my address, just because I want to know how much a loaf of bread costs. Why should I be expected to supply the same sort of information because I'm online?
I suppose what really got my back up, after all the buggering about, was to find the product was not even on sale

...ahh, but when it does go on sale, Graeme, (probably next Tuesday), now you know where it is, you'll be able to go straight to the Purchase page in a matter of seconds...Graeme wrote:I suppose what really got my back up, after all the buggering about, was to find the product was not even on sale. I was there yesterday with my grubby hands holding my credit cardphilip wrote:...ahh, but when it does go on sale, Graeme, (probably next Tuesday), now you know where it is, you'll be able to go straight to the Purchase page in a matter of seconds...
I'm getting concerned about the number of departments with which you are no longer connected. Do you think they're trying to tell you somethingphilip wrote:Ex-Head of Silver Linings (Cloud dept.)

I also highly dislike the current trend of asking for far too much personal info...even in non-online shops, and dont think that anyone really needs as much as they ask for. It seems that every store now wants a phone number or address or some sort of information so they can market to you now days at the checkout. I always give the number of the local office of the better business bureau.Graeme wrote:I do understand the point made by TechnoWeeniePas, regarding modern marketing techniques - but that's not to say I like them and I said so (in a roundabout way). Me too. Unfortunately, in the case of the Raw Material online shop, there's no other way of sending you your registration number for PPMulator.TechnoWeeniePas wrote:I also highly dislike the current trend of asking for far too much personal info...even in non-online shops, and dont think that anyone really needs as much as they ask for.
I can vouch for the fact that these e-mail addresses only reside in the shop's secure customer database and aren't actually used for anything other than sending customers their keyfiles to unlock the software they've just bought.

If I buy something, then I don't mind. After all, I'm going to be asked for much more sensitive information (CCdetails, etc.) than my email address and I'd probably want to know about any updates and stuff like that anyway.philip wrote:Me too. What I dislike is the inability to even obtain a simple price for something without this nonsense. There's simply no justification for that.
Of course, if it was a non-virtual shop and they tried this sort of stunt on, I could simply threaten to walk away and they'd probably tell me what I want to know - that's not an option in the virtual environment.

we know there was an error in making that page, but still the information was all available and you seem to be the only person who missed it
so it IS a whine, because you didn't play properly :p (moreso because you're still complaining about it)

OK - so I missed it. However, it seems that others agree with me about both the facts that it should be there and not liking to part with personal information unnecessarily.haydxn wrote:we know there was an error in making that page, but still the information was all available and you seem to be the only person who missed itso it IS a whine, because you didn't play properly :p
In fact, I'd say the balance is in my favour on this issue, not yours.
No I'm not. I'm carrying on a reasonable conversation about an issue concerning privacy and the way we are forced to give personal details, just to gain a bit of information about something.haydxn wrote:(moreso because you're still complaining about it)
Have I done something to offend you? So far you've accused me of 'pointless whinging' and being a 'grumpy boots'. All because I raised a small issue about the absence of a price for a product on that products sales page.
Just because you where to find the price is not the point. I didn't - and maybe, many others won't either. I was just trying to make it easier for those who follow me down the same path.
I said initially this was not the only instance of the practice and this was just one example of many and the man responsible agreed it should not have happened. Why can't you just accept that - as I have done.

sorry graeme, i didn't put enough smilies in there and was trying out jens' sense of humour
i agree that the whole retail world has gone personal-data crazy of late.
the thread started in a bit of a ttoz "I'm FURIOUS" kind of way tho, and i do sincerely still detect a bit of a whinge in the subject, but we'll happily disagree on that
