are you making 2 songs in the same project file? i made that mistake.... ONCE.

till i realized oh one song per project. if you make multiple edits make sure they are using the same files... otherwise youre screwed.

Ah yes, I'll back what Ron said there - back in the dim and distant past I used to slap everything in the same directory, and as I tend to forget to name tracks (I know, I know) I would occasionally have something like this, although I thought that situation had been dealt with. These days I always ensure I start a new project in its own directory.

I wouldn't dream of having more than one song per directory! I don't think there's a 'countermeasure' in place because it simply may not have occurred to Jules that people WOULD put more than one song in a directory.

I stopped doing that after managing to lose an entire song (my mistake, not Tracktion's) - it wasn't one I particularly liked, but my daughter did!

Too bad this thread was trolled that much...

I will try to trace why it happened but I've seen a post with an interesting reason : they could disappear after a Tracktion crash or freezing.
I have to check that and thanx for your answers. It appears I am not the one and only but fortunately, there is the "Search for lost material" button

...yep, just to reiterate Oxbee, it used to be possible for clips in an edit to "lose" their association with the parent WAV files if you never visited the Project page (or closed Tracktion) since importing them and had to unexpectedly terminate the app (or your computer rebooted etc.)

Just press [Esc] twice (to nip over to the Project page and back) once in a while and that'll make sure all these associations are saved in your Project file.

Not at all... I never would think of having more than one project per directry... I do however, usually have more than one edit per project, but thats not related. The files go missing (the files dont actually go missing, the links get screwed) quite often, sometimes immidiateely after a take.

been a while so i'll try and recall. I very often use the command 'abort current recoding, discard anything recorded and restart', have a key command assigned. Works very well, very fast and keeps the pace up. Every one likes it. On a few occasions, after we got the take we liked, I hit spacebar to stop recording, and all I get would be nothing. As though nothing was recorded, but all along the the event was being built. All signals were routed correct too.

another issue that haunts me, happened a couple of times. I finish recording. All OK. The band sits and listens to their track. Everyone happy and go back home to sleep. Project saved. Session closed. Later that night i open and rework on the session. Just mixing, no editing etc. so the wav files are untouched. the next day when i again open the session, I have a segment greyed out, usually any one take (even accross multiple tracks). the files still reside in the pool, and at times, with great difficulty I have managed to even relink them. But in larger sessions it's quite impossible.

Still. I will be formating my machine very soon. And will give Tracktion another shot. Could this be a disk issue? NTFS on all drives. Dual boot.

Also, I have the NFR version

so no selling it.

if you open a project STARTED on the other boot that has the same id as a project started on this boot then both projects could lose there links

only a stab in the dark? but it did happen to me (like ron said ONCE!)

I've had it happen, more than once, and -- unfortunately -- it always seemed to happen when I was working with someone else, bringing back files after an absence, during which I moved the entire directory elsewhere (drive housekeeping) and then brought it back. I still don't exactly understand what caused the problem, but I wound up having to painstakingly rebuild edits. The first time it happened I went back to Vegas and Sonar for months before trying Tracktion again. Then I tried again, carefully backing everything up with archives. It happened again. And unpacking the archives caused other difficulties.
Lately everything has been working fine, but I'm still not completely sure if I can move a directory to another drive and have it open correctly afterwards.

sounds like a disk problem to be honest... i use t2 intensively and havent had a problem.

Yes! it is very possible that I opened the session in the other partition before archiving. However, how does this explain only one take 's link going for a toss.

Also, i distinctly rmember loosing links while working on the same partition, withought changing anything...
