What video card does Jules use to make JUCE? That's the one I want.

Well, he may have a particular sound card, but you'll probably find it doesn't work well with a particular motherboard, or RAM, or DVD burner, or air conditioner, or carpet...

Doubt you'll have any luck there- I'm on T1-
mind you, 30+ audio tracks sounds reasonable (certainly a hell of a lot better than my 12+)

What, 30+ tracks not working properly is better than 12+ tracks not working properly??

Which GeForce? The reason I ask is that NVidia's drivers allow you to tailor settings for each app. That 9250 is a decent card though I'm not sure what ATI's drivers allow. If it's a 128MB or higher GeForce, you may be able to tweak 2D performance just for T.

Ok....what about a hardware JUCE accelerator? You know you want one. Why should the OpenGL geeks get all the GPU?

Thanks to dealwithit and haydxn for the suggestions - I'm going to try them out tonight!

hadyxn - it helped quite a bit to get rid of each channel meter, but that is going to be a pain, I reckon. Especially without a mixer paradigm, having meters on the channels is vital!

Reckon? ;-)

You don't think it's handy to see if an individual channel is clipping, or whatever...?

Not really; it can't... :P

FWIW, I think Haydxn's suggestion was meant in the spirit of trying to determine if a phenomena that a few people seem to have observed may have something to it. If the meters do turn about to be high load, then logically they can be optimized, and we'll all be the better for it.

Just to confirm that my graphics run a lot more smoothly without the meters present.

Interestingly the most obvious way I can see the GUI suffering apart from the cursor movement is the track time. Without the meters present it fair whizzes away, but with the meters, it jumps from one number to another every half second or so.

@valley: an individual channel can't clip?? I agree regarding optimizing the meters - I personally can do without a mixer, but would love channel meters at least!

@synthbuilder: exactly the same for me, mate.

No, it honestly can't.

Audio is simply stored as a floating point value between -1 and 1. There is nothing at all to stop the audio exceeding these bounds, floating point after all being able to store some exceedingly large numbers. If the audio values do exceed +/-1, some plugs may be very unhappy, and obviously you'd need to drop the level before it hits your DACs on your soundcard. Beyond that though, you truly have at your disposal near-infinite headroom.

It's easy to test too - just boost a track to way over redline, then use the master to bring teh level back down. If the track *could* clip, you'd hear the distortion even when the master level was way low. You wont though. ;)
