...and Kurt Cobain's death had been used by those P.R. machines in the 90's just to sell more Nirvana records, which is shallow, but also quite logical. That's what happens when any artist dies tragically. Like Elvis, too.

WOW.DuX wrote:Could it be this? Pop music=marketing team and making as much money as they can and not thinking about art and/or love for music. Alternative/indie music=more about art and love for music, and there is not too much marketing or marketing teams involved?
You are naive to the extreme if you think there is
not much marketing involved in alternative/indie
music.
If it has a genre name it is being marketed.

Yes but by whom. Most often the genre name is invented by overzealous music press journalists, who also act kinda like marketing dept for few genres or subgenres they like (senslesly repeating the name they or some other journalist invented in articles and reviews). In most cases that kind of marketing is quite uneffective and detached from inner life of the scene. OTOH it's still more efficient than "marketing" done by the scene insiders.GypsyJazz wrote:If it has a genre name it is being marketed.
Besides, pop music type marketing doesen't market genres but single acts.
Obviously a computer still can’t throw a television out of a hotel window or get drunk and be sick on the carpet, so there is little danger of them replacing drummers for some while yet. -- Nick Mason
