I did listen to recordings of real tube amps when i was trying to get "the" sound using freeware vst's.Lunch Money wrote:I wonder what sound other people imagine when they think of warm and glassy?seamoss wrote:software amp sims are cool but they just don't emulate tubes very well. they just don't capture that warm, glassy sound that a tube amp has.
Greg
as i dont have a tube amp, i got (downloaded) some sample tracks from companies selling new tube amps on the internet. this sample track to me sounds glassy and warm. i really like it. it gets muddy towards the end. this is from a new amp, i dont know how the old classic tube amps sound metres away, live.
here is the sample track

Which H&K amp is that supposed to be taken from?jacksplat wrote: here is the sample track

Sounds good to me. Should cut through a mix fine as well. And, unlike what you get from others, H&K doesn't seem to be ashamed to post some really raw tones.

one, old harddrive clip will do
whats it for?
i bought one of those el cheapo effects pedals, not a tube screamer type, more of a metal one. apart from wanting to here the sound, i just want to "tweak" my setup a bit..............cya

Haha, good try. You won't get these files, causejacksplat wrote:is there any kind soulwho could post a quick (short mp3) of their older tube amp? say mildly distorted. its off topic, but its my fav. topic.
(a) everybody would flame the poor poster for his guitar playing skills and
(b) it would show how lame most of this fantastic multi thousand dollar vintage tube blahblah sounds in recorded form.
There will be quite a few tube fans now who will hate me, I am sure - but did you ever take into account that listening to an mp3 file on your headphones or through your cheap desktop speakers is a different listening experiences to blowing your ears in front of your 2 meters high Marshall stack? And that the same Marshall stack will sound like blowing wind through a comb when recording it without tons of equipment...?
Sorry, I could not resist. By the way: I own some tube stuff myself (however, just an SPL Gainstation for getting vocals into the computer)... Peace!

It's not short but if you leave your dial-up working all night you'll have it in the morning. It's not a clip it's kind of song (2 gtrs+bass+drums+drone) and recieved some nice comments

jacksplat: there's not denying that the H&K sample sounded great.
I think you're in the ballpark with sounds like the 'Driven Blues' type demos on the website, though. When you have the sim in your hands, you'll be able to tweak the presence and treble to give it more 'air'.
I'm loving my TonePort UX2, but I have to admit, it's "driven blues" tones aren't as good as I would like. (It's based on PODXT)

NIce Sascha. I can't wait to hear what you'll play. I really enjoyed the GR2 demo but could not justify the price. I just wish I knew for sure if AT2 has a standalone mode.
