Yeah, Podium is a little hard for the beginner, beacuse it's based on a totally different idea of the workflow. But once you understand it music making becomes so easy... If you decide to give Podium another chance, here is the latest "getting started" guide. http://www.zynewave.com/guide/guide02_start.htm

2. *Freeze*
3. i now would like to be able to move the frozen part around and/or make copies of it in the same track/lane. Being able to still do some volume automation on the same track would be nice as well.

No way to do this in my current host, Ableton Live.
AFAIK this isn't possible in SX either.
Does Sonar offer this (or any other host)?
Do you mean Audio Export, i don´t think there isn´t a single Multitracker\Sequencer not capable of it.
SX does it well, don´t know about the others.

Exactly why I've never bothered with freezing. It seems some users have forgotten that exporting is still a very useable option. It does everything that freezing does; the only difference is you have to manually turn off the plugins to do the saving-CPU thing. You don't have to lose the original channels etc, either. In fact I always save previous channels and mute+turn off all plugins as a matter of course. Same as with freezing...if you want to go back to an earlier version, you just unmute and turn back on.

Colonel Flashback...all the main hosts can do exactly what you're after. Render/export/bounce it instead of freeze it - it's exactly the same thing but with a few more mouse clicks is all.

Right....so you'll buy a whole new host instead of using those few mouse clicks?

Here's a hilarious video from a few years ago explaining how to do freeze in Cubase SX v1. Why anyone would want a one-button solution when this is all you have to do is beyond me. :nutter:

i bounce a LOT, it disrupts the workflow and i got enough wrist problems already.
Freeze in Sonar is 100% perfect. I'll probably wait to see if Live 6 gets usable Freeze (and copy+paste which don't take 15 sec to complete) and if not, i'll switch to Sonar.

In sonar, bouncing to tracks is a 2 step process for me. Select clip, press F6 and Enter, and i'm done.
Then i can move that audio clip wherever i want.
