Dear all,

I am very much interested in buying a Muse Receptor, however I cannot find any dealer nearby within 100 km to test it at. I would definately not like to buy a cat in a sack, so here goes my question:

For a live gig I would need this setup:

1 Receptor, linked with an old ADAT (so I can have 8 extra outputs through a small digital cable, instead of the standard 2 provided).

I would make one multipatch per song :

1 VST playing a full-length song click track (probably using NI Kompakt ?) on a separate output channel, needed for our drummer

1 VST playing a full-length prerecorded stereo arrangements track (also using NI Kompakt? ) having a stereo output, both on separate output channels
regarding that both VSTS (this one and the clicktrack) are triggered using one note.

About 6 to 10 VST's being or Kompakt or other VSTs for live sounds midi-linked with my master keyboard. I need to be able to switch my master keyboard onto any of those VST's separately or together (quickly turning the knobs?), without stopping the full-length samples that are running.

2 VST's handling vocal effects, each with a separate output channel but sharing the same source coming from a DI box.

Do you think this setup will work and that the performance of the Receptor will keep up ?

What about loading time for one multipatch if I do it this way? (If u calculate: 4 minute stereo track = 35mb + 4 minute mono track = 17 mb + probably a lot of multisamples (strings/horns/orchestra) 100mb-200mb in total = +- 300 mb total of samples for a multipatch) Can anybody tell me more about this?

Perhaps I should upgrade it to have 2 GB of RAM and preload everything before the gig and use an UPS?

I can use my Korg Triton to fill up gap sounds, but I cannot start a song without starting the clicktrack to the drummer... ?

Thanks a lot for all replies and I hope this machine will make my dreams come true :)

Would someone please give me an idea if the above setup would work, and if Receptor can handle pretty large multisamples well in Kontakt (e.g. 200 mb per multisample in 4 duplicate Kontakt's) and how fast loading time is for that +-, and if switching the master MIDI-instrument to a different patch does not influence the other VSTS running within that same multisample ?

Sorry for my impatientness, but I would really like to know it before I go buy it! Thanks alot!

Sounds possible. Your click track and prerecorded stereo arrangements could be MP3 files played by (for example) askywhale Mp3Play VST, or perhaps WAVs played by a streaming VST (to avoid loading into RAM). As long as the rest of your live VSTs don't take too much CPU.

In v1.5 of Receptor, the new "Snapshot Banks and Patches" feature will allow you to pre-load your full setup across the 16 channel strips, then quickly mute and unmute channels in response to program changes (while not affecting your click track).
See the 1.5 Release Notes PDF.

By the way, you should use a UPS (backup power supply) in any case.

Thanks for the feedback, you are now responsible for me buying a Receptor! :p ;)

I will let you know how much I performance I get for this kind of setup !

Thanks again, cause I was starting to despair due to lack of any response!

You're welcome - have fun!

I created a simple free plugin expand the number of inputs: GH-LRSelector (768KB), which allows you to use the stereo line input as 2 mono ins. Also works with SPDIF in, so you can get a total of 4 mono inputs on Receptor.

That sounds great! What do you have to do to install it!?

Post

Extract the files from the ZIP file.
Make a new folder on your Receptor:
\Program Files\VST Plugins\Unsupported Plugins\GHServices
Move the DLL (and TXT if you want) into that folder.
On the Receptor Setup page, you should see 1 plugin waiting to be installed. Install it!
To use the plugin, for example, select Line input (or SPDIF) as the source for channel 1, then load GH_LRSelector into FXA. On my plugin, click on 'Left Input'.
Now select Line input (or SPDIF) as the source for channel 2, then load GH_LRSelector into FXA. This time, click on 'Right Input' on my plugin.
Feed different signals into the left and right Line inputs and confirm that you are hearing them split into channels 1 and 2.

BlAcKThOr, I'm running kontact II on Receptor, simutaneously firing off a stereo pair out the main outs and a click out an adat output. seems to work fine. I'm in the trial by fire stage of determining whether I have the confidence to take it to the show. I'm intending to replace My EMUs with this system running in parallel as a back up to DP 4.6. (By the way, the click and tracks do not have to come from seperate VSTs)
