No rhetoric questions please ;)

Anyhoo - I really don't think this oatmeal is mediocre at all.

Oooh, this is a keeper for sure. Love the arp.

To call this mediocre... you must be he humblest guy alive. :)

I am sure that we are prey to a bit of deliberate under-sell here

This is (sonically) a very very fine piece of work..

I can imagine that this will have a similar impact to synth1

Hi Fuzzpilz,

sorry to have to report a buggy appearance:

Tried to open it in FL Studio 6.08 - all can be heard fine,
but the GUI isn't ther. The only thing I can see is the x/y/z controller grapic down on th left. The whole other screen is displayed BLACK :?
Don't believe it's my graphics card, cos I can all the other guis fine.

Anyways now will do the "blind" test  :)

cheers,
thom

Here is a "reference" image for anyone wanting it (if you're half blind like me or use a high reolution or whatever reason.)

(Click just slightly to the outside right of the picture for it to open fullsize, clicking on the pic itself just opens the thumbnail.)

(ahh ..synth1, im just rediscovering that one too..!!)

I really wouldn't be suprised if this becomes the new Synth 1 (although I never really got into Synth 1 myself :hihi: )

Try playing (and holding them all down) any sequence of 3 different keys. On the third key I always either get a clicking sound or the 1st key note again.
Does that make any sense?
Hmm, can't replicate that... what exactly do you mean by "lead sounds"?
ianweb123 wrote:I am sure that we are prey to a bit of deliberate under-sell here
Not really. There's a huge amount of things Oatmeal doesn't do, the CPU use isn't insane but still suboptimal, etc...

That's strange... I guess I'll have to get the demo and see for myself.

If you regard this as unoptomised, bland, lacking in features etc, then please, do continue to "bore" us with any other creations you have pending. :P

Tried it in the FLS demo, couldn't replicate the GUI problem... could you maybe get Filemon and see if there's anything unusual when it tries to load oatmeal.png? It should complain if something goes wrong, but who knows...

That IS weird, thomekk...shows up and plays just fine for me in 6.08...
just for kicks, you may to try a different screen res or at least "toggle" your display settings...really don't know what would cause that one...

I thought the "lead sounds" would throw you off the scent. I guess I mean monophonic sounds (ie. not polys). Again, I'm no expert on the lingo here. I had the explanation a bit wrong before. Let me try to explain again.
Open the "bassmeh" preset. Play a note and hold (hold this down the entire time). Play a second note. The "bug" occurs in the next step. Play a third note. When you switch from note 2 to 3, let go of note 2, but immediately switch to note 3 (if you switch slowly or let the first note sound in between, the "bug" won't occur). This results in a clicking sound, or more likely, the first note will sound instead of the 3rd.
Again, this only occurs while holding down a "root note" and switching notes 2 and 3 very quickly, possibly when there is just a little overlap of note 2 and 3 during the switch.

Hopefully that will help you replicate this! Sorry if my explanation is poor...

I'm having a similar problem. :( I also tried it in Fruit Loops 3 for the heck of it, and yeah, garbled interface.

However, I could hear it.

Yes, this synth has some fantastic patches, though I couldn't tell how much of that was due to internal FX. Really that doesn't matter though, because it's free and it sounds fantastic with hardly any CPU usage. I just wish I could actually see the interface!

Weird how you use an external .PNG outside the .DLL, was this for skinning ease? Hey if you can fix that garble gooky problem I'll make a PropheSea skin. I do like the minimalistic GUI approach, but there needs to be a bit more differentation between the seperate elements, or paged panels or something. It's a tad overwhelming is all.

One question I really want to know is what did you create this VST using...?

Either way... this is the most positive fuss we've seen about a free VST in a long time, and for good reason. I think we have a new dev star here folks, no doubt. But it isn't like he didn't know Oatmeal sounded great (baiting bastard :p ).

Funny..I just got from Guitar center checking out the new virus..and I have to say that this synth can do a lot of those same sounds!! good work..that delay is excellent!

but sorry to report that while it installs on receptor, it does not work. The GUI does not show up and neither do the presets. But..I am happily playing it in eXT!
