Usually what I do is load a plugin with the same patch on a Receptor and on a Mac/PC. I also set the soundcard (in my case, RME Hammerfall DSP/Nuendo 8 I/O, which seems to have the lowest latency around) on the Mac/PC to the same buffer size. Then I play notes and count them (with sustain pedal down), until I figure out which amount of polyphony is completely stable, i.e. no clicks, pops or crackles.
Just so you know, in my experience, even at the same buffer size, Receptor has lower latency than the RME HDSP/8 I/O combo I have. This could be related to OS overhead plus 8 I/O converter latency specs. And the Receptor analogue I/O sounds a little better, too. I have an A/B switch where I have connected my 8 I/O (96kHz)to Receptor's ADAT output and switched between analogue outputs of the 8 I/O and the analogue outputs of Receptor...
