By the way, I love your skinning ability Grymmjack! I'm excited for your Fretted Synth stuff. :-)

But.... I don't want to hi-jack the thread, so I'll now return to the current topic. ;-)

Personally,

* I like the distortion effect of Oatmeal more.

* I also like the randomize button.

* I like the effects better (overall) in Oatmeal.

* I like the skinning (More opportunity for me to choos the skin I WANT to work with.)

* I like the capability that Oatmeal has for making fairly realistic sounding organ patches (versatility).

Like I said, it's the little things... and it doesn't mean that I'm putting down Synth 1 in ANY WAY. I like and use them both a lot.

Synth 1 has a warmer sound to my ears, and Oatmeal has a colder, more crisp sound to my ears. I can't say that I would really use one MORE than the other, because I see them as having their own particular uses, however, I just like the feel of Oatmeal better.

I hope that I have been able to explain my personal preferences to some degree. :-)

Gotcha, and concur mostly. Though I have gotten some pretty warm sounds out of Oatmeal. I don't know jackshit about synthesis beyond the very basics (oscilators, filters, adsrs, arps, etc) so I really just go by what I hear and experience with the UI's. That said, yes skinning is very cool and lets you really do whatever you want with it. That's huge considering some people may find the original UI of synth1 not as good as they'd like it to be. It's too bad synth1 wasn't skinnable, we can dream though :P

I don't know about you AJ, but I spent like 2 hours hitting random just to get to the next message. Yes it's insane, but come on, it's fun,. My Uber Goat Cutter and Attack the Sock Zombie presets were making me laugh so hard I woke up my fiance from bed. She hates Oatmeal :) I love it.

What is the goofiest name the randomizer came up with for you?

here are a few from my list (I save the presets that are good and have cool names):

Be Her Battleguns
Bitten By My Tooth
Emptying Their Aunt
Fool the Sockzombies
Merry Thunderlizards
Shoot Her Dictator
Stealing His Gnome
They Are My Goats

Emptying their aunt.. yechhhhh.

O.k..I'm sorry, I don't have the time to search
68 pages in this thread for the answer, so I must
call apon my trusty KVR' members to, once again,
rescue me.

First of all, Oatmeal is a fantastic synth..IMHO.
and I Just love the ' Ezeeskin '..helps make the
oatmeal a little more,'if you could excuse the pun '
a lot more digestable..I know...that was really bad.
but really, I love the sounds on this synth...

With that said, I have a problem with loading
the 10 banks that came with the synth.
in the preset folder, there
are like 9 banks in .fxb format, but they all
are banks, as in the name it says bank.fxb

and the only one on the list that works is the
bank that has the .omb format...can somebody help
me understand this..seems oatmeal only
accepts the .omb file.

Post

System20...I think you can only load the .omb thru the Oatmeal interface and .fxb & .fxp thru your host :?:

Is it just me, or are all of the skins very blurry?

Post

Either you're overexagerating with your "all of the skins are very blurry" comment or you need a new monitor! ;)

The text on my GUIs is uses photoshops standard aliasing algorythyms which aren't the greatest and can appear *slightly* blurry depending on a number of factors like what screen res/monitor size you are using and what type of monitor. Does the standard Oatmeal skin look blurry on your monitor? The standard skin has almost no aliasing so it should appear pin sharp unless it really is a problem at your end.

I don't know what to make of it. They are blurry. I am comparing to my other plug ins. I am using a laptop and the monitor is sharp.

Yes, the standard skin is blurry also.

Post

I just took a look at the large version of the default GUI and it looks OK.

Maybe it is just the small type on most guis that is making it look blurry.

Could you post some screenshots?

of course i'm being picky, but i hate to see words used with their exact opposite meaning! i trust by 'aliasing' you mean 'anti-aliasing'...
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
