Hey congrats on your 5/5 for Abstrakt:Konkrete in SoS! Just read that this morning. Was just checking out your Abstrakt:Bass - will give it a listen tonight.soniccouture wrote:Hey! I'd better stick up for Blue Tubes here!
I love them been using them for about 3 or 4 years, and i use the comps ( very precise eg control) everyday, the Limiter is really really nice, and the pultec style EQ's are great workhorses. Oh, and the 3D delay has a really musical sound.
they're good. I could not live without them, PSP's stuff, and L2. everything else is expendable. And I have a SSL Duende -heh.

I agree partly with snooky (snooky wrote:soniccouture wrote:Hey! I'd better stick up for Blue Tubes here!

and to quote you again, the L2 is not a very good limiter these days, and Duende is just a low powered dsp solution (with the mediocre SSL plugins) easily outdone by UAD or PoCo (which in turn will get old reaaally fast now)
your falling into the "expensive=good" bottomless(money)pit.
Get out!
As for bluetubes? I find them worthless. There are much better freeware alternatives around. Pretty GUI, mediocre sound (that should be their slogan).
Cheers!

FWIW the Duende is significantly more powerful than Powercore and UAD-1. It has 4 x 333MHz SHARC processors running at 40-bit floating point. Powercore Firewire had 4 x 150 MHz Motorola 56k DSPs.

funny, i dont find anything except peoples words to prove anyting about it. Perhaps it is just subjective.
I havent heard any audio comparisons to tell me that blue tubes suck...

Designed to improve the quality of digital sound recordings. This bundle recreates the warm sound qualities of classic analog hardware.'
it begins with their eqs. they don't even have the curve of analog ones at 44k. it's the same problem a lot of digital eqs have that are labeled as analog emulations. it's the same with urs and most other companies that claim 'analog warmth'.
now as with all tools, you can use them and make something out of it(something brutal/ugly sounding could be the ticket in certain musical genres). some people like aliasing, others like assymetrical filters. it's just that they don't give you what they claim and there are better plug-ins, that are closer to this certain claim than blue tubes.

.... still, no audio example of what you mean.
how does one prove this argument? By a bunch of terms? Its audio, man, lets hear some examples!!!

sounds like snake oil to me.defjamm wrote:what i told you is better than any audio example. educate yourself about dsp and you'll understand, no audio needed. it's not a bunch of terms, it's science.
show me a difference between a blue tubes compressor with a the same ratio, threshold, attack, etc as a "good" compressor and let me hear the difference.
its not science, its audio.

you see the red standard digital filter on that picture? that's what blue tubes (and others) give you at 44k. do you see the analog reference curve? that's what they should give you as analog emulations but don't.
math results in sound. different curves give a different sound. if you want a test make one yourself.

No offence mate, but do you realise how dumb that sounds. I don't know about you but when it comes to choosing synths or effects I use one thing and one thing only, my ears. If they sound good they sound good, if they don't they don't.defjamm wrote:what i told you is better than any audio example. educate yourself about dsp and you'll understand, no audio needed. it's not a bunch of terms, it's science.
Most people listen to music by using their ears too, as opposed to downloading a specification sheet and project file of the track

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! What a load of horsepoop!! That's the EXACT
same nonsense the engineers spouted about how transistors were
"better" than tubes. How the equation reads or how it looks
on the scope does'nt mean sh@t to a tree.

you are the dumb ones for not listening and trying to understand what i wrote.
@arksun: that's why there are this discussions all around the web about summing engines and 'this daw sound better than that' when they in reality don't. the ear is easy to fool(loudness, nice guis, price).
if something is the emulation of something, and even doesn't give you the same curve(one important thing for an eq), it won't sound the same. this should be very easy to understand. the customers get fooled.
it's all math. and simple algos won't give you a good emulation.
@capncockhead: you're confusing some things big time. i didn't say analog is better than digital. there will be emulations that will get as close that the human hear won't hear a difference(when everything is matched the same way). but blue tubes isn't of this kind LOL.
if you don't want to learn i don't care, stay dumb
