There's a manual?

..in the zip.. called EQ22.pdf.. ;)

I have just started experimenting with EQ22 and I'm extremely impressed, duncan :-)

I find that it is a very creative EQ - I'm finding it especially useful across a drum mix - with pretty extreme sound alteration abilities :-o

my one, teensy request-ette is that the sliders be made longer as there are some pretty dramatic effects even around the middle of the slider range , which I would like more control over.

This is one fine piece of work!

+1 on the slider thing, more resolution please.

Would you be able to post and example? Say 10 sec of dry, then 10 sec of the same section thru a preset..

The processing works like a linked compressor, in that the max absolute value of the pair is enveloped. However, how they respond to the processing depends on that actual data each side, which can go up as high as +13dBFS before a softlimiter catches it ;)

If there are wild variations in the input, there may be wilder variations on the output. However, I'd like a look to see if it can be tamed if there is a problem!

Oh, and which host?

Right duncan, here is a drum loop I tried this on...

www.headroomproductions.com/Audio/Loop.wav

Especially when I drop the lo-mid or hi-mid sliders, I get a similar impression to what I might characteristically expect to get if I were to unlink a stereo EQ and apply a subtly dissimilar gain/frequency/bandwidth setting to right and left channels...a subtle imaging shift in the position of any affected frequency material...predominantly the piano in the case of the hi-mids. I find it quite noticable, but strangely, when positive gain is applied, this effect is much less apparent.

This behavior is the same for all the hosts I tried it in...Sequoia/Samplitude, SoundForge, Vegas, Sonar, Cubase...

Perhaps I may be totally missing the point of this plugin, as it certainly appears not to be conventional in its conception. It that case, truly I am a clueless git, and should just shut up. :hihi:

kilroy - I have just read the manual and the plugin does, indeed process things entirely differently depending on whether a cut or boos is applied.

synesthesiac - embarrassingly, I have just read the manual and discovered that shift-drag on the sliders gives a fine tune control

All - it's well worth reading the manual - there are lots of hidden nice things in this plugin :-)

So scuzzphut, yer saying we're a buncha "RYFMs", then? :hihi:

Anyroad, it seems possible that what I am hearing is simply an intentional program dependant reactance.

Whatever the case, one thing is certain for sure...you can get some *truly* outrageous drumloop crunch with this puppy. 8)

scuzzphut, don't be embarassed, you want embarassed? I actually did read the manual some time before posting that.

I need to slow down and not skim when reading...

 I think we're all guilty of that at times :D

kilroy - thx for that, I'll have a peek at what's going on.

kilroy - nice loop :) I really like it. Reminds me of some of the incidental music in the 'Erin Brokovich' film..

Anyway down to business. I can hear what you mean, but I think it just happens to be a kind of odd sweet spot for that loop, take the HiMid down to -oodB, then adjust the tuning knob up and down. You'll notice the stereo field restore :)

I tried creating a similar patch with kjaerhus ClassicEQ. CEQ only allows -10dB cuts, so if you take the 630 and 2K bands to -10 and listen. Then on EQ22 take the HiMid down to -10dB (the top of the slider is roughly in line with the halfway mark). You'll find the stereo field of both is quite similar. They are affecting slightly different regions, but you can hear what's happening with the sound stage.

Hope that clears things up a little :)

Indeed.. one of the quirks I mentioned and kind of like as it makes this plugin unpredictable. :P

Hmm.. but it still doesn't tell me why even mono material gets a slightly twisted stereo image when cutting mid frequencies. :)

Anyhow, I actually LIKE the sound of it so please, whatever you do, don't change it or at least keep the original behavior optional! :D

I really really dig this plugin of yours. It's in my folder "secret weapons" and proudly sits just below a very special beta version of voxengo warmifier. :P

Cheers!
