I Want Rev. C
Hi Brian (groovology),

I'm not quite clear on the upgrade paths.

Is it possible to upgrade a/b units to a Receptor Pro? I think this is true since the upgrade page suggests upgrades from a/b -> c, and c->Pro. If this is the case, is the update from a/b -> Pro $1700.00 (ie. $499 + $1299)?

Thanks for any confirmation, Regards,
Kevin L
Here are the options:

Rev A to Rev C: $499
Rev B to Rev C: $499
Rev C to Receptor PRO: $1199 (upgrades drive and processor subsystem, no RAM upgrade included)
Rev A or Rev B to Receptor PRO: $1499 (upgrades and replaces the MoBo, Powersupply, Processor, cooling system, ahd Hard drive, only thing not included is RAM)

If you don't need the 750 GB drive, you can substitute a 400Gb drive and save your self some money.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Where did you see the $1299 price for Rev C to Pro upgrade? That's a mistake and if its anywhere on a Muse site I'd better correct it!
Thanks for the detailed answer! Sounds convincing enough for me to go for the 750GB and not having to worry about HD space for the coming years.

Hi Louis-

I spoke to a product specialist at Seagate, and they re-affirmed that hard drive capacity is not inversely related to reliability, but that it is related to fragility. So if you take two drives, one high capacity, and one lower, the higher capacity will be somewhat more fragile than the lower capacity, but not inherently less reliable.

I guess what this all really means is that if you have a high capacity drive, you should take some extra precautions when transporting it, but in regular use it should be just as reliable as a lower capacity drive.

Hope this helps

Nope - I think that was my mistake. I double-checked where I previously looked - and it was $1199. Sorry for any confusion.

DAMN! Just wanted to order one, but it appears that there's no dealer in the Netherlands anymore that imports receptors!!! Anyone suggestions?

The lack of solid European distribution is a pain in the... There's a guy who seems to be helping in the UK, but we need at least a pan-European service centre where to buy and send Receptors for service/repair. For you, having to pay extra shipping from the UK or Germany to Holland seems naff.

Well I'm up for doing this if Muse will agree ;-) I'm told I'm doin a decent job in the uk... (he says humbly ;-) )

I sent an email to Music Works who, according to a press release from june 4th 2004, did distribution in the Benelux. Their reply simply was: "We don't import Muse Receptor anymore." without any further clarification. :(

Whether people decide to upgrade or not, and I decided to, Muse have to be praised for offering the possibility to do so. It is not often we are given this chance with music instruments. I know it is easier to upgrade a PC-based system than a classic synthsizer, nevertheless, kudos to Muse here. In my mind, this is the sort of thing that inspires confidence.
I absolutley agree and what a difference it makes. BTW, I would get the 4 Receptor EWQL deal in a heartbeat if I didn't have nearly all their libraries already. Dang it, I always miss out on deals like that.
