Funny thing: The six band eq and Reverb were not found when I opened this project. Its seems I don't have these Mackie plugins. Are they from the boxed version? I just have the download version of T2.

DOH! No, you don't get those plugs, sorry

OK I will!

OK I finally ordered the video. I came back to T2 trying to find a way to accomplish sidechaining. But I still don't understand how to set up BFD with multiple outputs with the kick ducking the bass. The video is superb.

Sorry for taking so long.

I am still lost on how to have BFD kicks to duck my bass track using your BFD rack. I don't see how to route the bass synth to the same Sidechain compressor that is receiving the BFD kick key outputs since it is stuck with the BFD rack.

Best,
Gordon

Actually that starts to get a bit more complex as you need to know a little trick to make sure PDC still works... I have to pop out now, but I will post up an example archive when I get back. (Bump the thread to remind me if not!)

Over a year of messing around with Reason and now almost a year with Tracktion...and I still don't understand Racks. Just one of those things that I told myself I'd "get around to".
But whenever I thought of it....like any of this stuff...I thought it would just be easier and more fulfilling to watch TV instead.

I understand...a bit...a bit more now, but...but I'm just left with even more questions. But I don't know what those questions are...or how to ask them...

How do you ask how and why the earth goes around the sun if you do not, in fact, know that the earth goes around the sun...know what I mean?.....

That is probably the worst way to get to know racks!
His rack is awesome, but in (my) reality, I would never go so far.
Start simple and build from there. Racks are just modular containers. They allow you to order your filters and make splits etc. Here's a rack example I did awhile back:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 82&start=0

This example is perhaps a little easier to understand.

You really have to just dig in and use the buggers to get to the bottom of it. When you load a filter (vst) on the right side of your track, right-click on it. Select the option "Wrap this filter in a rack" (or something similar). Add a reverb to the rack by dragging it into the rack box below the tracks. Use this simple rack to experiment with input/output connections. A lightbulb should turn on at this point (above your head naturally). Add a delay and do the same experimentation. Now, go back to my rack examples and trace the lines. There's actually logic there. ;)
Racks allow you to route things in ways that would make a cubase user hurl vomit. Ext has got a similar function, but is a lot less intuitive imho. I think Ableton Live also has great routing, but I've never used it.

Anyhow, let me know if this helps or if I just got you lost even more....

If you still have no starting point for working with racks then I'm sure IIRs will pop up with his infintie T2 knowledge shortly. ;)
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

Step-by-step:

1. Create an extra output for the BFD rack, and name it "Kick".

2. Wire BFD's kick drum output to this new rack output (I wired it from the EQ filter not from the volume, as that allows you to adjust the level of the kick drum later on without affecting the bass ducking)

3. Copy the BFD rack to another track (name it "kick") and choose the new "Kick" output for its "outputs come from" fields.

4. Select the volume filter on the kick track and press the mute button in the properties panel.

5. Insert a sidechain compressor on the bass track, and wrap it in a new rack.

6. Copy the rack filter to the "Kick" track (making sure to drop it after the BFD rack but before the volume filter) and choose the "Key Input" for the left channel and "None" for the right.

This should be the end of it, but unfortunately the PDC will be broken unless you also follow the next step:

7. Copy the "Sidechain Comp Wrapper" rack filter to every other track that has a BFD rack filter, and set the dry level up full and the wet level off completely.

...

If you are happy with your drum parts however, there may be an easier way to set this up: follow steps 1 & 2 above, then select the BFD rack filter on your main drums track and choose the kick output for both output channels. You should hear just the kick drum when you press play. Select that track and render-and-add, then set the BFD rack filter back to the main drum mix outputs. This will give you an audio track of just kick drum which you can use to key any other plugs totally independantly of the main BFD rack, which will simplify the PDC situation.

Hope that makes sense...

I don't own a television... :P

I think freeztar was right: start with something simpler!

I own a TV that was given to me. I've never hooked it up and don't have cable anyways. Makes for a good night of music making/conversation/slacking off at kvr.
Doh!! :dog:

Something simpler? Yeah...like I said... TV.
Honestly, I'll try. Somewhere, somehow. But learning this stuff, to me, is like quicksand. The more I struggle the further down I sink to my death...

In fact, most of this is covered in my personal blog (which is open to all because I don't care...), so I won't go into it here. http://machfront.livejournal.com/102486.html

Now. I have the Tracktion 1 freebie from back when...will there be any major differences?...
