DK+ on OS X?

I don't recall seeing this asked before (though it may well have) and a quick KVR search didn't show anything obvious, but are there any plans for an OS X port of DK+ (seeing as DKS Pro is cross-platform)? Now that I've got a Mac, I'm looking at only getting plugins available on both platforms.

Hi.
I don't think that DK+ can be easily ported to Mac.
The code base (which I wrote about 8 years ago) was not written with portability in mind.
DK+ is an entry level product and the big numbers are on the Windows market, I suppose.
This is just my opinion, I don't work on the DK+ anymore.
Do you think that could be space on the MAC market for a similar entry level product?

I don't really know, because maybe a lot of Mac users are used to paying for better than entry level products. What I do know, now that I've had a bit of a look around, is that I can find no entry level universal binary sample-based drum machine for OS X. There are maybe some older ones, but they appear to PPC only. So for my new Intel-based Mac, all I can see is RMIV and Battery, which aren't exactly entry-level.Aldo wrote:Do you think that could be space on the MAC market for a similar entry level product?

good points blurk, and thanks for you feedback,
unfortunatley as Aldo wrote the DK+ code is based on an old Widnows only project,
maybe it's possible to build a UB version with less features od the DK+, E.G. is step sequencer needed?

Well, I'm a software developer by day, too (though unfortunately I haven't done audio software), so I know about portability and the lack of it.liqih wrote:good points blurk, and thanks for you feedback,

Well, funnily enough I have just replied to Aldo in another thread where he asked for feature requests for the step sequencer in DKS Pro. I asked for it to have a MIDI out so that it could drive other plugins in a modular host (I use Bidule). So..., if DKS Pro gets a step sequencer that I could connect to a possible trimmed down Mac version of DK+ (maybe call it DK-liqih wrote:maybe it's possible to build a UB version with less features od the DK+, E.G. is step sequencer needed?
I guess all I would need is:liqih wrote:may you please list the essential features of the DK+ you would need in such a plugin?
- Simple sample playback per pad, no need for it to be pitched.
- Panning of each pad.
- User-loadable samples (wav format).
- Saving kits.
- Velocity layers and choke groups would be good.

you should pull away some more than the step sequencer, no?, <grin>Aldo wrote:blurk, the DK+ without the step sequencer is the old A0 DK1.
No need to call it DK-

Sure! I was mainly referring to the features that blurk would need.

that's really the minimum, <grin>blurk wrote:I guess all I would need is:liqih wrote:may you please list the essential features of the DK+ you would need in such a plugin?

of course that would be almost totally unsellable on
Windows due to the freeware abbondance

So you would have to add more to make it sellable.liqih wrote:that's really the minimum, <grin>

Another thought...
Since half the people here seem to be confused about the name DKS Pro, maybe you need to create a DKS+ Pro that combines the two. I know that defeats the point of DKS Pro being synthesised only, but once it gets a step sequencer perhaps all it would need is an option for the pads to be Osc1 + Osc2 + Noise vs Sample, and I'd be set. Though I'll wonder if maybe allowing Osc1 to be a waveform or a sample would be interesting.
