Ummm - it's kind of stooopid of me, but I was seriously thinking about Receptor for a while until something occurred to me.
Does 1 Receptor have an ability only to host 16 "channels" of VSTi? And if so - that would mean presumably that if I popped in SampleTank2 I could take up all the channels with that one plug-in.
Have I got this right?
Regards
Caleb

I'm working through this issue myself trying to get the best 'live' setup. Receptor is incredibly configurable, so I don't think there's a simple yes/no answer.
check out the Receptor Manual pdf pages 97-100 about configuring the midi listen channel and midi play channel .. this shows how to use multi-timbral VSTi's through the midi listen/play mapping.
I'm just a bit confused that if, say with NI's B4, I want access to all 3 sound sources (upper, lower, bass pedals on midi ch. 1,2, and 3 respectively out of the B4) that I need to instantiate B4 on three receptor channels in order to play these simultaneously. It makes sense, although it seems a bit of a cpu waste at first blush.
hope this helps

re: using the B4 .. this post is amazing at describing a very involved live configuration for the Receptor: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=146476
it answered my question about B4 instances .. at least is giving me a few things to try out when i get home!
