Ah I see what you mean now. This has nothing to do with the parameter interpolation, but with the accuracy of the frequency conversion in the filter. I had set it to a lower accuracy for testing purposes some time ago, but forgot to switch it back. This causes a little noise when changing the cutoff frequency on high notes. Thanks for noticing, this will be fixed in the next update. :)
Summa wrote:Sorry to say that, but the aliasing is getting slightly better at 96khz, but it's still tweeting at high resonance. Other than that I'm getting random clicks at 96khz, even so the processor load isn't getting higher than 6%...
High levels of resonance means the signal is amplified hundreds of times. The filter has non-linear saturation functions built in, which will add harmonic distortion when the signal levels are high. The point of this is that it creates a full and analog-like warm filtering sound. However, it has the downside that it is harder to design, it needs more processing power and it can add some aliasing at higher frequencies.

It's very easy to create a simple 24dB lowpass filter that is fully alias free. These are used on lots of VSTs, but these simply sound digital and cold. That's why I chose to design my own. And I think this was a good choice, since many people have already told me that they like Sylenth's filters better than most other VSTs.

So yes, there is a bit of high frequency aliasing when you use high resonance or high drive levels. But since using such high levels of resonance or drive on very high notes does not make much sense anyway (they are usually used on bass-sounds), I don't think this is much of a problem. Besides that, an oversampling option will help reduce the aliasing artifacts anyway.

As for the clicks you mentioned, I expect these are caused because of buffer underruns? If you use a higher sampling rate you should also scale the buffersize accordingly. Clicks can also be caused if the host application (or the audio processing thread in the host) is not running on high priority. But either way I don't see how this could be caused by Sylenth.

Hi Lennar,

I discovered Sylenth1 two days ago (damn, missed the group byu!!!) and was a bit sceptical at first. But today i finished a big blind comparison based on all mp3 demos i could find for all important payware VA synths. Needless to say Sylenth1 came on top for it's strength and filter transparency. It just sounds wonderfully analog to me (my idea of analog anyway :D ) My congratulations for creating such a wonderful synth.

I have not tried the demo yet, but the audio-samples and the manual convinced me to byu it in the very near future.

Caution: Feature request
How about Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) for all waveforms, is this already planned?

Another thing i would really like to have, but it's not top priority, is a waveshaper z3ta+ style. Yeah, i know, but a man can dream, can't he :hihi:

Warm regards
jj

PS: About the knobs - i think the Voxengo implementation is the most ergonomic (very quick and very easy to use!). It's linear, but if you hold down both mouse buttons you get very fine parameter control. Think about it, or better, try Voxengo GlissEQ (for that feature).

Thanks jj, glad you like it!

You can do PWM by using 2 or more oscillators. In the next update there'll be the possibility to invert the waveforms which will allow to do PWM for all waveforms (Check http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=159019).

There's also a distortion/waveshaper effect onboard btw. ;)

Thanks Lennar for clearing this up ;-)

Very good sounding synth .. eeeehhhmmm ... audio examples.
Is there a chance in near future to release a non-SSE-version?

Have heard about the nebula-plug; there's a possibility to change an optimization-parameter to number 3 in the .xml-files. So also non-SSE-Users can use it.

Anything similar planned on the sylenth1?

I'm sorry, there's no non-SSE version planned because a lot of code is written fully in SSE. Also, all current and future processors support SSE.

A fast CPU is important when using VST software, so it might be a good idea for you to invest in that first, instead of a new synth ;)

Hi Lennard,

when can we expect the next update?

Very soon :)

It has already passed the testing stages, I'm updating the manual and wrapping up the presets. Will take only a few days I think.

are they planning to release a sylentsynth set??
Yes, they're working on a soundbank too.

filterfilter wrote:The reason that i bought the sylenth is that (in my opinion) it is the first VSTi, that's NOT (!!!) sounding thin in the "bassment"! The quality of the oscillators and filters is the best I've heard from a VSTi by now.
I agree.. Lennard please release a standalone audio filter! :hyper:

Hi Lennard,
I've been using the demo version for about a month now and really tried to talk myself out of buying another soft synth - but I failed and had to buy it yesterday. Fantastic! Is all I can say of the quality of sound and new presets. I do like the gui (synthedit or not) but have a few FR's.

1. Preset load/Save functions, maybe a favorites function also.
2. An expanded preset display a la Z3ta+, Sytrus etc., or even a databse browser thing like the NI stuff.
3. An expanded Arppegiator or step sequencer like maybe FM8 or ERA2.
I think maybe you have addressed these requests somewhere here but not much else is missing for me right now.

I bought Sylenth1 because of your dedication to the sound and will continue to buy any future product you decide to build.

Thanks for a great product!

Regards,
Craig

Side Note: I have had trouble buying through Share-IT! before but this transaction was very smooth, virtually immediate email confirmation and within like 3 minutes afterwards a download link. :D

Could you tell me which presets were used in this demo? Is it one of the factory presets or did they create their own? In case they created their own, where can I get it? It isn't on their website.

Yes, a preset browser is on the todo list. Not sure about an expanded arpeggiator though, because you can also use a midi step sequencer for that. All parameters are now controllable via MIDI CC's, so they can be controlled via an external step sequencer pretty easily.

It's a demo of their own soundbank, which will probably be available on their website soon.

Sounds good, thanks Lennard.
