Newbie question: How do I split up my drum track?

You don't need to arm the other tracks. You only need to record one midi input: the result will be a single midi clip containing trigger notes for all your drum pads.

O boy .. I thought was going to record audio using the combo VST X Rack filter.
ANyways .. at the first "settings" page I had my MIDI device set to monitor only and not record
duhhhh
Finally able to record .. noc back to the Manual to learn how to render such MIDI tracks into audio.
Will be right back !!

I ordered the video ... for sure that will help me a lot.
WHen muting the MIDI clip track. which in my case is track 1 - I cannot hear the other ones (seps) through track 2 to 17.
When I play the MIDI clip .. I can see in the other tracks the levels m,oving up and down according to the separation I did. But when muted .. everything else is muted
I really want to edit things sep as well ..

Yeah... if you mute a track you disable everything on that track, both filters and clips. You could select the volume filter on that track and press the mute button in its properties panel instead, but there is actually a better way:
Create another track and move the midi clip onto it (or enable the midi input for that track if you are playing the sounds from the kit). Then copy the rack filter onto the new track, and select "none" for both its outputs. This track is now doing nothing but sending midi to the rack, while the other tracks are now doing nothing but returning audio from it.
Final step: select the new midi track and press the "solo isolate" button in its properties panel. You should now be able to freely mute and solo all the individual audio tracks...
(I cover that in the video using BFD iirc.)

I recorded some drum tracks to a friend's song. he is asking now for the audio separates. How can I get them?
Using the method above I rendered the audio and got a stereo audio file ... worked on the audio volumes.. FX . compression and all.. but I never saw the waves within the audio tracks per se . Can I record them before rendering to audio.. which I understand is a mixdown ?
sorry if the question is lame. And yes I got my video .. gotta watch it couple more times...

Assuming you followed my instructions exactly, you should have a track for just the midi clips as well as the BFD output tracks, correct?
If so you can simply select this midi track, then hold control to select the "kick in" drum track at the same time. Now you can either use the track render function, or the audio export with "only render selected tracks" ticked... the second option would probably suit you better as you need to export the audio out of Tracktion anyway. Then repeat for each drum track, taking care to select the midi track as well each time.
that make sense?

Worked as a charm. Thank you again Sir
Just to take a doubt out of my mind: is this type of info. found in the Manual?

Would this strategy also work with a drum program that you have to Rewire into Tracktion? I'm totally new with the rack concept... so can I wrap a rewired application like Drumcore into a rack and then route the midi into different outputs the way it was done with a VSTi like BFD?
Thanks for any and all help.
