Yeah, I'm hatin' it like it was OSR, yo!Lagrange wrote:+1 for Stylus RMX..
Are you hatin' on Intakt?bduffy wrote:I couldn't stand Intakt, myself. I found it really hard to slice and control beats with the NI interface; switching between creating, muting and deleting slices is really awkward, and the window just isn't big enough.Just playin.. You actually reminded me that It does kinda suck.. I tryed it out a couple of years ago and got rid of it fast!

SOunds like you had the same experience as me. I'm still waiting for the ultimate, easy-to-use REX-player-slicer, with a big, clear interface.

i have a couple of friends that bought intakt themselves when released...buggy as hell and unstable like some obscure thirdworld country dictatorship
both they got rid of it
Peace

Totally. I tried Phatmatik again when Izotope re-released it, but it too sucks in most of the same ways, IIRC.dreaddd wrote:bduffyi totally agree..i dont want a uber-exaustive featured monster only to use slices, i need simple straight reader...a cut down phatmatik pro (NOT phatmatik free, that s different) would fit perfectly to me...Personally, I think there has never been a satisfactory beatslicer VST
a crossover between dr rex and phatmatik almost
Peace
This would be my favourite VST slicer (Propellerheads should just make a ReCycle VST!):

One of the great things I found about the Dr. Rex player was that the reason sequencer was at hand the same time as editing and sequencing. So I think it would be great if someone made a vsti Rex player/slicer that had a sequencer built in and that you could trigger the full sequence and it's individual parts by midi notes.
By the way Battery 3 does a great job playing Rex files in tempo w/ your host and will map the slices to individual notes/cells. The preview function, which runs at the same tempo as the host, is great as well.
Directwave will play and map slices to keys too, but there is a bug right now that the internal effects do not work on rex files...

I guess some (propellerheads) would argue, Why not just buy reason.. Which leads us into an infinite cylindrical loop query with no esc button..bduffy wrote:Propellerheads should just make a ReCycle VST!

If I understand you, Phatmatik does this. You have to export the midi file and import it in the sequencer though, but it take 2 seconds (you can usually save it to the desktop and drag it into the sequencer). With DR Rex you just hit the button and it sends it automatically, but it the same functionality.mw wrote:One of the great things I found about the Dr. Rex player was that the reason sequencer was at hand the same time as editing and sequencing. You know, I forgot Directwave does REX...but talk about a tiny mapping screen!mw wrote:One of the great things I found about the Dr. Rex player was that the reason sequencer was at hand the same time as editing and sequencing. But I was not aware Battery 3 did REX, and mapped it to cells, and previewed at host tempo! I think I might have to check out that demo...

One other MAJOR problem with some of these rex players is they don't do mirror stretching. Which means your gonna get some nasty envelope cutoffs (clicks) if you slow down the tempo in the host! AFAIK Recycle, DR Rex and FL's slicer are the only ones that do this. I use vsampler (which also loads REX files and Exports a MIDI file) but have to make sure I get the length setup properly 1st or it's click hell for the loop.

"Mirror" stretching? You mean the stretching in ReCycle? Yeah, it's a very cool feature that everybody inexplicably forgets about.Lagrange wrote:One other MAJOR problem with some of these rex players is they don't do mirror stretching. Holy shit, that's a good idea! And the edits you make in ReCycle are updated in Kontakt??loachm wrote:...when I use Kontakt, I have chosen Recycle for the option "use external editor" - so I have my perfect Recycle VSTi...![]()
