While watching the MaliceX video from this thread

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=186798

( MaliceX playing Roland type sounds from within Oatmeal), it dawned on me that using
the modwheel on the keyboard could perhaps be modified (no pun intended ':)' )

and having had a go at sorting out the shop, and recalling the parts inventory, I went and got some electrical crimp connectors, the kind with a closed loop at one end, and plastic-coated crimp stem on the other, and I taped two of them to my synth, at angles that 'flowed' nicely from the modwheel, to a fatar foot pedal, and simply taped some 20lb monofilament fishing line to the modwheel, passed it through the loops, down to the (heavy) fatar pedal, taped it in place, set the modwheel to 1 octave range, and it worked quite nicely, as proof of concept, the caveat being it pulls down an octave, while not able to push up...but I still find it so nice to have this added lead ability hands free, no cc settings, no extra ports, and quite nearly free of cost,
that I pass it on, in case it may bring some sonic goodness to any of you. To partially defeat the caveat, I placed 3 connectors at angles leading the opposite way from the modwheel, making a semi-circle leading to a connector positioned at about the second octave C note, just above and away from the keys, so I can just reach up an inch to pull the modwheel up (I just tied a washer to the end of the second line!), while still having foot access to downward bends.
thanx to MaliceX, for the nice video, and patches for Oatmeal, now its time to visit the shop again, and put things in finer order, but oh, how I'd rather play the keys!

This is all of course under the patent-pending "Flexicable-drawbar" technology, and if any of you use it, without buying your wife or girlfriend a nice steak dinner,
or sending a paypal donation to a freeware synth developer, my lawyers will be around to have a little chat... ''

I bought a cheap pc steering wheel/pedal board, mapped the pedals to pitch bend and the modwheel, but the pedals weren't very accurate and had a non-linear response.

I was looking to use it as a controller for fx whilst playing guitar.

Sorry, but I think your idea's about as bad as mine!

I think there's a gap in the market for a simple USB/Midi foot pedal though.

I think you're both on to some good ideas! I think there is a market for such a mod pedal too. Although I'm not completely sold on this Rube Goldberg manner of achieving it, the idea is a good one. Very resourceful, guys! How 'bout some pics of this Flexicable system, Glokraw!

Cool, this reminds me of some old guitar pedal gadget when you could control a pedal's knob mechanically with a footpedal. :)

A midi footpedal(s) with a built in merge would be nice to have too...

i love mechanical contraptions like that

Quite resourceful. Can those of us without the luxury of pedals plug the flexicable directly to a shoe? I suppose that might present certain hazards. :hihi:

I want to see a photo of this contraption you speak of. Sounds interesting. :D

The good thing about some MIDI controllers is they have the option to re-map the controller setting of the pedal except pitch bend, which Oatmeal solves by mapping a CC to pitch on the XY.

Pretty interesting concept however, though wouldn't it be possible to have like a sort of a 'see-saw' pedal so that you can pull upwards or does it sound a bit impractical in theory?

A shoe? Try a brick. Does the job even better! :D

Remember, its not a gadget, just a couple of items with a round hole to pass through the line, which in my case, (keyboards differ in casing) runs down and slightly to the right from the wheel, about 5 ocklock, to the first loop, then down and to the right to a second loop just below the bottom edge of the keyboard, and at about a four ocklock angle, and then goes down to the foot pedal. One might use washers, threaded 'screw-eyes', cup-hooks, some stout paper-clips would be great, bendable and adjustable in multiple angles!, think I'll go that route on the second beta,
just love brainstorming...you are bringing me good luck today...I grant you a free license! Just pm me your PIN numbers as dongles!'8)', and I will activate things.

Edit: I tried the shoe: not good if you love coffee or beer etc when you practice

Hi glokraw, et al --

Is it possible to use a MIDI expression pedal to control mod wheel settings? Haven't tried it, just asking . . . I was thinking of getting this to control Guitar Rig, but maybe it'll do what you want:

I looked at one of those, but it's overkill for me - I just want a pedal!

I thought that both expression pedals and mod wheels mapped to cc1, but I'm probably wrong.

Post

By default, expression is CC11 while Modwheel is CC1. In some cases, expression pedal can be remapped as can the modwheel, depending on the unit of your MIDI keyboard (controller).

f**king hell! How do Behringer get away with that krap!?! Those switches are exactly the same as my Boss ones.

That depends what kind of I/O device you have. I have two foot-switches plugged into mine and there is a jack for a pedal as well, all of which can be freely assigned to different things. Gotta love Line 6!

Erm, did I miss something here? I'm really not sure what your beef is. What "krap" are behringer trying to get away with? Also, although the switches are very similar they are not "exactly" the same as the ones boss use. Even if they were, why would that be an issue? Were your Boss ones way cheaper or something?

I'm not trying to wind you up Bones, I just don't understand what you are getting at! :?
