I had opened MU.LAB. Following from your note about compatibility, I thought: "Oh, I know, I'll import a MuSession from LUNA." Knowing that the one I had in mind was a pre 8.4 session, I immediately launched the last LUNA to save it out again.

MU.LAB crashed:

(I'd put a small amount of money on it being ASIO related.)
Yes, indeed there is a crash bug when opening 2 mutools apps at the same time.

Issue resolved in MU.LAB beta B.

Note however that if you would run MU.LAB beta B and LUNA (or beta a) together, the crash will still occur.

But MUTOOLS apps starting from now are protected against this.

Thanks.

pljones wrote:So the next thing to try is not running both together ;).

I loaded LUNA, loaded a .MuSession, saved it (same name), closed LUNA, loaded MU.LAB and told it to open the .MuSession. It refused.

So I closed MU.LAB, loaded LUNA, loaded the same .MuSession and saved it with a new name, just to be sure, closed LUNA, loaded MU.LAB and told it to open the new .MuSession. It still wasn't happy.

Mmmm... That's not exactly a tricky MuSession. But here's an even simpler one that doesn't load (yes, I resaved from PR8.4):

An ashaming bug

When mulab opens a luna pr84, it wants to automatically show you the luna-mulab-compatibility.txt, but it's not there and that's where it goes wrong.

Resolved in beta B of course.

toxicoh wrote:Yes, I'm having the same problems loading Luna Sessions. There's an error box asking about trying S.O,S. mode, but that doesn't work either. These are all simple midi or audio projects with no automation.

[Edit: I wasn't expecting compatibility with Luna 8.4, but it would be nice. I've been exporting the midi from those projects to test with MuLab. That works ok.]
Toxicoh, the sessions that you want to load in mulab, are that luna pr84 sessions, i.e. saved with luna pr84?

If so, feel free to email me any problematic session for examination.

You may have a point, will think about this further.
What do others think about this?

Should the small rack version be widened so to include the possible send knobs at the right of the plug slots?

Post

Quick tip about selecting racks:

Just click below the level meter, that's a safe spot :)

Calum, do you have an idea to add a subtile indication on the racks so users know where to click to select the rack?

This does not have to be below the level meter, the above tip is just a quick tip for now.

Ok,

Here is a bug! Try to re-arrange the order of racks. The project I'm working on has 6 racks. Maybe I want to move them so the "Effects" are at the extreme right side of the rack window. Maybe I would like to move "Drums" to the extreme left of the window?

This can't be done here, at least. (A small thing, I know.)

I think that this would make the interface too fussy. You get better control of the send knobs by double clicking on the plug slots anyway. I think it is more important to allocate an area in the smallrack to make selection of the fullrack easier. Jo, I can think of 2 ways to do this, I will try to send you some replacement smallracks tonight to try out.

Yes, I will send you something tonight.

A "grab handle" on the rack for where to click to expand it would be good.

I'm not keen on having the sends visible on the collapsed view, though.

hi jo,

few more things noticed while using mu lab:

crash when I change selection in rack from being a vst instrument to being a rack send

my old ibook g4 800 splutters when cpu gets high but this is old laptops fault more than prog i reckon cos the audio settles down when i stop sequencer and its ok when i press play

no way to glue parts together - glue tool?

delete key for parts/sequences rather than using the rubber

the implementation of the audio/sequence panels at top and ability to change them in sequencer lanes is very quick and easy to use. perhaps a way of importing more than one audio file at a time would be good addition to audio panel

selection of patches/programs in vst or effects - in muzy's i seem to remember that you had this working really well with pull down menu showing patches that made it very quick and easy to select programs

quantise - how is it set? mibbe i'm missing something or is it set by the grid only?

great work all the feedback beta testers are getting from you!!

That's not called a "bug" but a "feature request".

A "bug" is when some part of the program doesn't work as it should be, technically.

A "feature request" is when you want to add extra functionality.

Now regarding your feature request: i've added it on the todo list.

I agree.

Indeed.

Ok, no stress as it probably will be for beta C then. Beta B is in the pipeline. Doing some last tests.

Was that in a normal rack in the rack desk, or was it a rack in the MUX or MuSynth?
my old ibook g4 800 splutters when cpu gets high but this is old laptops fault more than prog i reckon cos the audio settles down when i stop sequencer and its ok when i press play
Indeed sounds like cpu sweat
no way to glue parts together - glue tool?
Not yet, but it's on the whishlist, and already studied.
delete key for parts/sequences rather than using the rubber
The delete key does work in the composer and sequence editor!

I just checked both osx and windows, both working ok here.

Are you sure they don't work on your system?
the implementation of the audio/sequence panels at top and ability to change them in sequencer lanes is very quick and easy to use. perhaps a way of importing more than one audio file at a time would be good addition to audio panel
I'm pushing this to later, feel free to bring this back lateron.

Right-click on the vst plugin in the mulab gui, there you have "Choose Program" etc...
quantise - how is it set? mibbe i'm missing something or is it set by the grid only?
Yes, the edit grid is also the quantize grid. Can be set per sequence individually.
great work all the feedback beta testers are getting from you!!
And me am very happy with all the feedback from the beta testers!!

Thank you

Hope you wil enjoy beta B.

muzycian wrote: What about this idea:

When a single (or double) click on a rack slot:
Then when that slot is empty -> choose plugin
When that slot is not empty -> edit the plugin

And do you think it would be better if there is a "Edit" also in the context menu of the plugins?
Maybe it should be there, logically, but don't want to overload the menus if not necessary.
Hi Jo

I like your first idea.

I don't think that you'll need to include it in the context menu, especially if single clicking will edit the plugin.

Cheers...
Well, it indeed sounded good to me too.

But now that i'm playing with it, i get annoyed by the fact that the plug slots react different than when i want to edit a sequence, where i have to doubleclick.

So then the feeling pops up: here i have to doubleclick, there singleclick, ... => confusing, takes energy.

So lets stick to a doubleclick to edit. But when a rack slot already got a plug, a single click won't bring the plug list anymore, only when the slot is empty. This way it's more, as no risks on "mis-clicks".

Lateron, also the rack slots will feature the "Replace Plugin" function. And then we got everything :)

Lats but not least: i'm adding an "Edit" to the plugin context menu as than the application is more consequent. And it's good to have it there for those who don't immediately find the doubleclick way. So now there are still 2 ways :)

ok so is this feature now implemented and its just me who cant figure out how to actually do it?
or the racks still cant be arranged?
if not, i think that adding this feature should be high priority. :]
