Massive on Receptor!

I have K4 on there, and I have the K5 update installed on my PC. NI was kind enough to issue a massive update (1.1.2, which like all their updates is really a stand-alone full install of the new version) and this means Massive works on Receptor!

This is what you need to do if you are in the same boat as me:

1) download the update from NI. unzip the EXE from the zip. Put it on your receptor in "My Documents" (or anywhere really).
2) Launch Receptor Remote
3) SSH into your Receptor as root
4) navigate to the dir where you put the exe
5) type this command: export DISPLAY=:1
6) then do this one: wine 'Massive 1.1.2 Setup.exe'
7) the installer will run. Answer the prompts on the Receptor Remote display. deselect everything except "vst". Take the default for the main install folder, then put the VST folder to C:\Program Files\VST Plugins\Unsupported Plugins\Massive
* the installer WILL throw a few wine exceptions back to the SSH console but don't worry about it.
8 when it's done, launch the service center (from SETUP page, Run Utility bottom). Cancel the "looking for connection"...Pick offline mode. When it finds massive, select it to authorize and click next.
9) launch Regedit on your PC and navigate to LocalMachine/Software/Native Instruments/Massive. The number displayed in "SNO" is what you want to enter in Service Center on the Receptor. Then you'll save the "ActivationRequestFile.html" file on the receptor.
10) copy that file to your PC and edit it (with notepad or something). Do a find on the word bundle...the first one you find is empty...find again..when you find it with a big number after it, you'll notice that this is your K4 serial number. Change it to your K5 serial number, which again you'll find on the pc Regedit screen in the BundleMember entry for Massive (yes, confusing name...it should be BundleParent shouldn't it)
11) save that html file, then open it with a browser (Firefox recommended, since IE is from the devil himself)
12) follow the instruction and log in to NI and generate the "ActivationReturnFile.naf". Save it to the PC, then copy if back to receptor (My Documents is good)
13) back on Receptor service center, click import and select that file.
14) Poof. You are authorized. Close service center.
15) go to the setup page and install as normal unsupported plugin

The first time you launch massive, you'll have to be patient while it builds it's patch library. After a few minutes, all the cool "Kore-like" patch browsing and stuff will work.

There are probably several other ways to get this to work, but I did this just 15 minutes ago, and immediately documented it, so I'm sure this will work if you fall into the same boat as me: again I have full K4 (and service center) already on the Receptor and K5 on the PC.

And now I have Massive on the Receptor. wooohoooo!!!

(disclaimer, I have played with it for 5 minutes and it seems stable, but stay tuned to this thread where I will report any noted instabilities if I find them).

IT'S MASSIVE!!!!

Thanks for the info.

Have you tried updating Guitar Rig or Kontact yet?

Any clue as to whether Kore 2 will install and be of any use on Receptor?

Will probably try K3 and GR3 this weekend. I'm a little apprehensive about K3...I don't want to screw up my fully functioning K2 since it was "factory installed" by muse. So I'm actually debating that one. To be honest, the new K3 features I don't need on Receptor....the new K3 library is nice in some ways (especially the "Synth" section), but it's not like I don't have those kinds of sounds in lots of other places on the Receptor already.

Is there going to be a "software only" version of Kore 2? If so, I will be anxious to get it and try it on Receptor. I don't see why it WOULDN'T work if it's basically just a VST that hosts over VST's....well, ok I never got Chainer working on Receptor but energyXT sorta did and some people reported success with Phrazor as well. Same kind of thing...but Kore's patch library features would just really be killer to have on Receptor!

Hey thanks for posting this. I'm in the same boat on K3 so I'll be interested in how this goes.

I just took a chance on buying a Kore 1 controller; it was cheap enough and includes the Kore 2 SW update which I thought was interesting because of the patch library and Phrazor like features. My understanding is that there will not be a SW only version of Kore2.

I'm waiting on the Kore2 update to arrive before using the above technique to try installing it on the receptor. My fear with Kore is that it requires the controller to be present and includes special USB/midi drivers which the standard Receptor midi I/O path won't accommodate. I wasn't able to tap into the midi data stream on my PC so I couldn't even tell what types of data the Kore controller is sending to the SW; hopefully it's just standard MIDI.

Just surfed over to NI and I believe this is still true. I was hoping for a "software only" version of Kore2, like Guitar Rig has always had, but I don't believe this will be the reality. They are still selling this as in "integrated software and hardware solution"....so I believe that will mean "no Kore 2 on Receptor" for now :-(

NI dropped the hardware-required "feature" of Kore 1 with one of the updates, after many customer complaints, so I'd be very surprised if they brought it back with Kore 2. There is a software-only update available for Kore 1 owners but apparently they aren't selling Kore 2 new unbundled from the hardware.

That's good news!

Not so good news :-(

Guitar Rig 3 and Kontakt 3 were both a total wash out.

With both, the Service Center did not recognize they were there, so I could not authorize. I also tried cloning ALL registry entries from my PC in hopes that SC would see them. It didn't.

Kontakt 3 would never install. Said it was needing POWRPROF.dll, but when I put that in Windows/system and Windows/system32 it still didn't work (said it still could not find it).

Guitar Rig 3 installed and could run in Demo Mode. The GUI was VERY sluggish though, and it crashed my receptor (soft crash) a time or two.

Bummer.

Kore 2 is available as a software only update to Kompete 4 owners.
only $49.95.

It would be great if it works.

Excellent Post. Thanks for sharing. Using this method, I was able to get FM8, Battery 3 and Absynth 4 working!

Now, anyone know how to make all the patches and banks installed with absynth 4 and fm8 visible to the receptor? (AKA: how would I create fxb/fxp patches?)

Thanks much,
AkNoT

Just curious to know if you've got Massive's "Save" and "Save as" buttons working on Receptor. They don't seem to work in my pre-installed Komplete 5 version of Massive (as well as in FM8 and Absynth 4).

Technical support told me to use "Save/File" in Receptor's GUI window instead, which of course works perfectly.
