Hi,

in reference to the current developmeent of Broken Drum Machine BDM plugin
(see http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=197266)

we reached a point where we need to decide if it's good or not to include a small (broken) sequencer in BDM, please check that thread (also for sound demos) and vote the pool.

Thanks

Regarding the sequencer, I kinda "voted" for it, but after looking at the skin mock-up and playing with the alpha a bit more I think I'll reconsider... I'd definitely trade the seq for some more actual dsp i.e. most of the ways you can make a seq malfunction involve randomisation, misfirings, etc all of which is rather easy to do externally with host sequencing and/or midi plugins... but on the other hand the vcos sound too good to be so simple (I'd love one or two more parameters per-vco to increase the range of possible timbres/variations) and the malfunction possibilities soundwise are also big enough to merit some detailed per-vco "errors" as well... I don't know, perhaps I'm alone on this and the seq is the way to go for most people...
ya know- I wouldn't be opposed to more ways to mangle the brokeness as a sound generator. Now that I've had my mits on this, I don't think that it's really necessary to complicate it with a broken sequencer as well... but as I say- more ways to mangle, the merrier

I came down off the fence and voted for no sequencer.

As long as there are plenty of tweakable controls :-)

Thanks steve, I guess we should agree on the meaning of "plenty", <grin>

also I wonder if Broken Drum Machine is still the best name even without sequncer, maybe Broken Drum Engine ?

Actually I'd take a suggestion from the other thread and go "Broken Drum Synth Machine" (aka BDSM) :hihi:
The mind boggles.

I prefer it with more vcos and no sequencer..
The daw can do the job and it will be more cpu-friendly.
Thanks!

Plenty = lots................. Not really <grin>

Apart from the usual suspects, I personally would like the following. I know some of these aren't going to be possible/realistic but I'll throw them up in the air anyway ready to be shot down in flames. Please feel free to ignore any/all

Note off function so that it wont always play full sound
Reverse - if you decide to implement sample playback

"random behaviour" should be based on probability (e.g. Erratic by De La Mancha) This would either be per parameter or a global setting per drum. e.g. probability of 1 means it may glitch extremely rarely but probability of 100 means it would malfunction everytime it is hit. This would probably involve a hidden page to set variables, but that need only be a list of parameters and numbers. If I haven't made sense there, let me know and I'll do a graphic mock-up to demonstrate.

That's about it for me, no doubt other people will have different ideas

What can I add to that? Mind you we do have to consider the support emails Luigi's likely to get and what it would do to his bandwidth allowance.

The scales are certainly tipped towards more tweakability at the VCO level, and doing the sequencing in host. This is my preference too. I think it encourages more focus on the potential of the BDM itself - more breakability. I wouldn't want to trade sequencer functionality for that.

Anyone else?

'broken' midi files can always be made available as an add on for the purchaser.
That way, there really would be no need for a sequencer.

Broken - maybe. At a minimum, I could maybe provide luigi with some midi files based on patterns in my PT-1 or PS-100 - you know, those cheesy "disco" and "rhumba" casio rhythms :) .

well, maybe the beta testers could write some midi files for this, too.
Cheesy disco and rhumba would be hot.

please check the other thread for sample playback so far
"random behaviour" should be based on probability
of course, that was meant since the beginning, <grin>

you'll have amount of Chaos and chance of Chaos too,
for each of the 4 voices

(working on that right now!)

yikes, I just found out about this thing...

I am still dissapointed in my drum sounds, so I am searching for more.. obviously my search has brought me to here now

I would like a step sequencer, but if not, than it is not what makes me buy. I am very much more interested in powerful and unique sounds.

anyways I voted yes for a sequencer.

thanks for your input ckatrun411,

so 11/16 ask for the sequencer so far, the first release of BDM will not have a sequencer but if I'll keep getting requests, I will add some kind of sequencer later with an upgrade

Post

Ok... :-) I still can not wait for the release the demos sound very exciting.
