Alex.
Could I hear some people's songs that mainly use Zebra?

We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

Petty cool. Great sounds and nice rhythms and good ending. (I'd like to hear just a little more variation in the bass lines plus some modulations but hey ...)blurk wrote:By coincidence, I've just completed my first track using Zebra 2, and posted it over in the other Zebra music thread.

How is the learning curve on zebra? I'm pretty new to synthesis, so I'm looking for a synth with tons of presets to keep me happy as I learn to create my own patches. Also, I want the next synth I buy to be my "go-to workhorse" synth, so does zebra meet that criteria for anyone?
zebra has all the presets you will need to get started and when you want to make your own........ read on
the learning curve is not steep in my experience. i have never enjoyed working with a synth the way I enjoy zebra. I find the gui one of the best I have used, which is remarkable considering the number of features/controls/modules. The signal path is so transparent at a glance where I find many other synths opaque (Tera).
Sound quality is outstanding. I believe Zebra is the best single go to workhorse synth you can buy - bar none. It has an amazing range of sonic potential.

In the Production Techniques forums i posted a medley of various Zebra patches set up as song examples while testing new monitors. I know some of you already know about this but i'll post it here aswell because everything you hear is Zebra only. There not added anything to the mix, not even a limiter. As far as i recall its its about 32 instances of Zebra.
The initial reason for this "demo" was to get acquainted with my new speakers. In short, good monitors are extremely vital to sound creation. I knew i had crappy speakers before but its first now i realize how bad the old ones were. My new monitors are Yamaha HS 50M, they are cheap and small but they sound very much like the old defacto studio monitors, Yahama NS 10.

Not that NS10's could *ever* be described as "good speakers"...mkastrup wrote:The initial reason for this "demo" was to get acquainted with my new speakers. There are many reasons people still use NS10's, but sounding "good" isn't one of them...

Hi Geese, as far as i recall its a mix of a new choir i've done and some wash like pad. So it is not in the Oldskool set since these 95% of these patches are new. Kick, Clap, HH, Kick Bomb and a Synth Bas are modified versions of the oldskool set.Geese wrote:That demo sounds great on my JBL monitors, Michael. If I may ask, are those sounds from your Oldskool bank? Especially I like the pad sounds around 25 seconds.
K beej, lets say GOOD balance thenbeej wrote:There are many reasons people still use NS10's, but sounding "good" isn't one of them...
