Direct Install Announced

:smack:

I for one would be happy to abandon the 'take-apart the hardware' steps. If a USB CD-ROM is ever supported (which shouldn't be too much to ask for, I'm pretty sure this exists on other Linux ports), this should solve that problem.

Meanwhile, what sayeth Muse on SynchroSoft support?

I will not get a Receptor unless it accepts the VST instruments using synchrosoft dongle.
Any news when it will be possible?

Linux had USB 2.0 support in the late kernel release of 2002 and supports firewire.

I dont think that this new feature will allow all plugins to run on Receptor just because they can install on Receptor. For example, what about Rapture, Dimension Pro and Real Guitar 2?

That's their form of copy-protection, making sure you own the CD. It also ask for the CD when you import banks for sounds (which is greatly annoying!) Ben, do you know if the "mounted CD over network" feature makes the mounted CD look exactly as if it were local to the Receptor?

If not, then you would still need to temporarily install a CD physically as well-documented here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=179044
I don't "think" so but I really don't know. I'll have to check with engineering.
SynchroSoft support?
It won't be in the 1.x OS revisions. As far as I'm aware, and this is in no way an official confirmation, SyncroSoft support is expected to be in version 2.0 of the OS, along with better USB device support (external optical drives and HDDs).

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the (non)-confirmation. ':D' Even if information is not yet reliable for schedule or commitment to features, it is still good to give a message of general roadmap for Muse development.

For me personally, it is re-affirming to know that my investment in the Receptor platform is moving in a direction to supporting various install and protection methods required for the plugins I also invest in.

Thanks, Regards,
Kevin L

We are now well into the second quarter of 2008 and the hope of seeing the Direct Install be released on time during the announced first quarter of the year has come and gone. Has anyone received an indication of when Direct Install will actually be released or how big is the showstopper that is preventing the software from being unveiled publicly? I'm very happy to continue using the unsupported install method but, I am not a fan of new technology being announced when the release date is not firm. Slipping from first quarter into second quarter is no big deal in the software programming world. However, I am wondering how far will the release date slip?

Linplug and Rob Papen are getting ready to deploy Syncrosoft's non-dongle copy protection in upcoming products. Is their non-dongle C/R protection going to be supported?
