I've played around with Direct Install for the past couple of days and I have to admit...it's a piece of programming genius!! (If you know anything about programming that is...)

The programming that had to be engineered is incredible...

Plus, the IK Multimedia announcement has FINALLY brought joyful tears to my eyes...thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Muse, keep up the EXCELLENT work!! Thank you, again!

Sincerely,
Brad
Thanks Brad... I think we're all blushing with your accolades, and you have no idea how much our engineering team appreciates a kind word - these forums can be a rough place for an engineer's self-esteem! I think you also understand and appreciate why it took so long to get the software out. What we're doing is not easy, nor is it trivial, and we try really hard to get it 'right'. So thank you for saying something nice!

And by the way, Direct Install is officially released... so no more predictions about 2009 or AES or any of that, thank you very much. And even if you don't use Direct Install, you're going to want to download the new Receptor Tools (remote control's new name) since it allows "one click" connection to the hard drive, and "one click" help files... now if we can only convince Digidesign to let us be RTAS developers and get UniWire working on ProTools...

Cheers

How about the next best thing ...

How about working with FXpansion to get their RTAS wrapper to work with the latest UniWire?

This would fill a large hole in the DAW world ....

Hi Kevin

That is the approach we tried, and unfortunately, every several minutes you get an (unpredictable) dropped buffer, resulting in a big click in your audio. We've talked to FXpansion about this, and Angus, genius that he is (no kidding - that dude is really really smart) suggested that there is a way around it that we are going to try to implement in the near future. But it would so much easier / cleaner / faster / better / more efficient / your favorite adjective here / if we were to just do it as an RTAS plugin. But we've received a firm "no thanks, good luck to you" from Digi, so we're kinda stuck at this point.

Mind you, I was employee #6 at Digi way, way back, so I don't want to start a Digi bashing thread, but I think our customers should know that we are trying to get RTAS UniWire to work, and it hasn't been and isn't easy...

Cheers

Just a thought,

Not sure if someone else suggested it, but couldn't Uniwire work in ProTools if it was Rewired with a client like Reason or FL Studio??

I don't have ProTools, so I can't try it. (man...wish I was a beta tester for all of the companies...why can't we ALL get along??) :)

Anyway, I might try Rewire with Live or Cubase to see how Uniwire works in this configuration.

Peace,
Brad

and this is one of the many reasons I'm switching to logic
protools LE is dead, at least for me

Hi Brian,

Brad brings up an interesting point here. This is not as nice an interface as UniWire is to various DAWs (because it wouldn't necessarily allow you to save any parameters for a plugin in the DAW), however - a UniWire / Rewire client would be somewhat universal. And it would not rely on RTAS.

Perhaps this would make a good interim solution?

Thanks,
Kevin L

It is something we are looking at, but ideally, the closer we are to the host DAW the better the solution... but it is definitely something under consideration.

How many of you Receptor users out there use Rewire? Does it work okay for you all?

Hi Brian,

I try to stay away from ReWire for inter-application transfer of Midi/Audio within the same computer. However, for Receptor, I am trying to find a way to reduce external connections (and rewire interface would have this promise).

It is unclear to me how to launch two rewire hosts though, given that I would like ProTools to communicate with two receptors.

As a Receptor Pro and ProTools user, I suggest anyone who would like to have UniWire RTAS running on their system head on over to the DUC and start posting. From small acorns...

Great job on Direct Install guys. Please don't stop there.

Hi Brian,
apologize for this offtopic, just out here...
could you Muse help Mr. Guido Scognamiglio's Vb3 (real/amazing Hammond B3 recreation) to be loaded on Receptor as a Single or in a Multi/Snapshot without a crash?
Thanks a lot.

Has anyone noticed Avid's stock drop almost 70% in the past two years? (57.25-17.75)

Digi is simply on another planet. Pro Tools LE will go the way of the four-track.

Whatever your predictions are for Digi... some people have made an investment in ProTools and a Receptor and would like to see Uniwire RTAS become a reality soon. I personally don't want to have to wait 2 years to see what Digi are going to do next... I'd like my current hardware and software investment to talk to each other as was predicted by Muse when they announced they'd be working on Uniwire RTAS some time ago. But Digi won't co-operate with Muse on RTAS development... so anyone that's interested should put pressure on the DUC.

Farhan has created a Receptor compatible installer for VB3. Get it at:
