Hi Urs,
take all the time you need to come back alive and kicking!
One request for the future installers of your plugins: is it possible to avoid the C:\Program Files\u-he folder? I think I'm not the only one to install plugins in different locations than the default <program files>; so, having another folder "far" from the real install one is not very good IMHO.
Thanks a lot for the beta update,
Mario

I have the "everything in VSTplugins" setup currently. So, I gather all I need to do is replace the Zebra .dll and replace the "data" folder inside of "Zebra2.data" with the new versions (so as to leave my current "presets" and "oscillator" folders unchanged), and that's it?
And indeed, Urs, enjoy your vacation!

That's why I don't recommend this solution: Please backup your presets and module settings first! - If you just overwrite the old folder with the new one, they will be lost!Vectorman wrote:I have the "everything in VSTplugins" setup currently. Been playing with the new beta, no problems thus far, great job, Urs!
After staring at the GUI, I noticed two small gui/skin glitches, they've been probably there for a long long time, and are no real problem...
1. when there are many modules in the sound generation rack, and you scroll it, the bottom line of pixels doesn't refresh.
2. when "Phase" is highlighted in the OSC module, the grey highlighter is bigger than it should be.
see:

and yes, I was very bored when I spotted this, and it's somewhat obsessive, so feel free to ignore it

This is still the case for me in Live 7.07 and 7.09Gyu wrote:When I opened Zebra it came up with a black screen. When I opened up an instance with an automap wrapper the screen was see through. Neither made sound.
I simply re-installed the older version of 2.2 and it's fine now thank goodness.
I'm not very techy but would be glad to help if you want any further info
Although previously I stupidly said that my laptop was a Toshiba. It's actually a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo xi 1546

Nice that you fixed the Env Attack modulation option, i need it too!
I'm holding off untill i finish my presets tough, only 4 more to go! I'm remaking the "Warriors" theme as a demo song

I'm pretty stunned about that one. I seriously have no idea what could be causing this... have you tried the "Pre-Installed" version? Are you using Vista with that administrated user mode?Gyu wrote:This is still the case for me in Live 7.07 and 7.09Gyu wrote:When I opened Zebra it came up with a black screen. I'm so sorry, I'd installed it into the wrong folder.Urs wrote:I'm pretty stunned about that one. I seriously have no idea what could be causing this... have you tried the "Pre-Installed" version? No joy for me on this new beta (august 2008): as soon as I close Zebra2 GUI I get a crash in nt.dll. Completely reproducible also on brand new projects.
Using SONAR 7.
I was using the previous beta, uninstalled it and installed new beta using full installer. Then I added Oldskool presets.
If useful I have a user.dmp and drwtsn32.log files about the crash.
EDIT: deleted all Zebra2 files both in VST plugins folder and C:\Program Files\u-he, reinstalled beta3 (may 2008); during install I checked "all in vstplugins".
This beta does not crash, so the problem is only in new beta.
Cheers,
Mario
P.S. Beta3 installed presets both in C:\Program Files\u-he and vst plugins folder, but I had to copy Oldskool presets to C:\Program Files\u-he\Zebra2 to make Zebra2 see them; will we ever see Zebra2 consider only its DLL folder tree and completely disregard external folders?

What about other hosts, like Minihost by Tobybear ?mabian wrote:No joy for me on this new beta (august 2008): as soon as I close Zebra2 GUI I get a crash in nt.dll. Completely reproducible also on brand new projects.
It might narrow the error search a bit down if this one works.

Is there a way to switch quickly among the two betas without having to uninstall/reinstall each time? If so, I can test it in REAPER and VSTHost. I had to revert to the previous beta because I needed Zebra2 to work on a song.

I like Sonar a lot when it's running smoothly, but it has to be about the most finicky host I've used so far, in terms of it not wanting to play nice with a number of plugins. The version of Zebra I'm using presently has never crashed Sonar, so I think I'll stay put with the version I'm using and hold off on trying the new beta until I see how this plays out.
I was kind of wondering that myself...whether you can just swap out the Zebra .dll in the Vstplugins folder instead of running the installer. Isn't everything else the installer would copy into the Vstplugins folder redundant (since those other items are already there from a previous install)? Is there a way to switch quickly among the two betas without having to uninstall/reinstall each time?

Sure there is a way, have a directory for each version and rename one of the versions to zebra3.dll instead of zebra2.dll. Just to be on the safe side have Zrev and zebralette also renamed to ....3.dllmabian wrote:Is there a way to switch quickly among the two betas without having to uninstall/reinstall each time? Host like Cubase dont like being able to see the same dll in two seperate directories, so rename the dubblets to 3.dll For sanity check better rename the latest build and all dll's in its dir to 3, thus having ...2.dll as the correct working version.

Yessss, problem solved on SONAR 7: I had older Zebra DLLs in a subfolder of the u-he VST folder (thought of storing there previous Zebra2 DLLs to revert in case of problems); this most likely confused the SONAR 7 VST scanner.
I zipped the older DLLs, deleted everything about Zebra2 (both in VST folder and in C:\Program Files\u-he), reinstalled latest beta and everything is now working as expected!!!
Sorry for the false alarm, now boldly going to enjoy the new version
Cheers,
Mario
