Indeed it's a minor refresh-bug, I'll create a hotfix soon.
Done, just redownload and reinstall the same file.

genesis have good detune ,synth1,xhip and my JP-8000 have good detune but sylenth's 1 detune sounds like detune in synth maker synths.
Out of tune and bad? Well I can assure you it's everthing BUT that. The pitch of the individual voices are perfectly and uniformly distributed around the center frequency and the detune knob itself is highly tweaked to get the most perfect detuning possible.

I'm not sure what you are doing, but I expect you are detuning with the retrigger button on, or something else that makes it sound different from what you'd expect.

thanks Lennard! 2.01 took away the last remaining click and stutters in Sonar and now sonar en sylenth is my perfect combination!

wonderful preset bank by "Kuro" by the way, really nice "dry" classic analog sounds, the sparse use of effects make them very authentic and very musically usable.

Well not so much out of tune but when detune is above 4 then saws arent stacked together anymore and you can hear each one of them separately in the sound and its kinda metallic sound, maybe its somewhat mathematically correct , but i have a sample fromJP8k and this is how it sounds :
http://www.speedyshare.com/845329167.html

It have one slider for increase number of detuned saws and second is amount of detune, you can hear it and how it affects the sound ,but even when detune s big the sound is ONE and saws are still stacked toghether,in sylenth if you give more detune on oscillators then they become to sound metallic, like in the basic detune in synth edit synths. For good detune in soft synths Xhip is good to check this out also genesis and synth1 v.107.Also decreasing number of saws doesnt make a big difference from 3-4 and above in sylenth.
I dont want to sound harsh but i was wondering why detune doesnt sound so good like in other synths where you can have very nice strings easily with it.I would like to see it improved in the future.
I know this can be somehow avoided by adding second oscillator but why if in other synths it works great with single oscillator and saws are very nice stacked together.
Maybe this sounds like a heretic talking for most users but i know this can sound better and be improved.

I did and made the following sample of a simple, clean detuned saw. First Synth1v107 then Sylenth1:

http://www.speedyshare.com/574951905.html

I set Sylenth1's osc to mono to keep everything the same. Except for the click at the beginning where Synth1 switches from mono to unison mode, I don't think there's much difference in the detuning part here.

Sylenth1's detune knob can be turned open way further than Synth1's detuning though (in this example the knob value didn't exceed 70% and the detuning increases exponentially with the knob's value), so indeed it doesn't sound as 'one' anymore when you open it all the way.

Well i not talking of course about out of tune detune (above "trance supersaw zone")like 5 and higher.I dont want to sound like a retard but english isnt my native so i have problems with explaining things. Some saws are not filling the gaps fast enough in detune mode and then you can hear separate saws.
Second one is Sylenth , it sounds very accurate at the beginning... but later you can hear some separated saws ,and this is what i was talking about ,in synth1 they still are stacked together and in sylenth saws are separated sooner ,just before when "trance supersaw zone" is and right where orchestra strings detune is.Also this is mono but when played in poly this is more noticeable.More detune and saws arent so stacked together , some synths dont have those "problems" (like xhip, gladiator or synth1)and some does have them.
Just turn off all FX on synth1 and get saw osc and detune it to 24,set envelopes for pads(filter A-max,Dmax-S-min,R-max and AMP A-72,D-max,S-max,R-80) and you can hear how smooth the sound is and there is no single saw osc heard even when you increase the detune(maybe when you listen closely then you will notice some separated saws but they traveling faster and its harder to spot than in sylenth).I was wondering how he archieved such smoothness especially when you play chords and filter cutoff is half open to simulate orchestra strings.
You can hear some saw osc when playing one note in synth1 with detune 24 but play chords and pads are very smooth.Maybe he used little different detuning algorithms ,i dont know im not synth programmer but i did some testings and compared some detune knobs in synths,i playing with this synth1 string patch and its like saws are coming onto each other to fill the gaps so no separate saws are heard.
Well i playing with strings on Sylenth (no fx)and on the note i hear something like phaser effect or flanger/chorus ,maybe its because of this ? In synth1 this can also be hard but its alot faster and not so noticeable especially on chords.
In sylenth you have more steps to detune than in synth1 so maybe its one of the reasons too.
I know You could always say that youre not aiming for Roland detune and leave everything as is now but i just wanted to give my feedback about something which wasnt pointed out before ,i dont know ,maybe nobody cares and just stacks a lot of reverb, chorus and delay.I like to test synths without fx.And detune is my favourite knob :D
Thanks for taking time to respond.

Ok, I did some further testing and I found that the only difference is that Synth1's detune consists of 9 voices. Which is easy to recreate in Sylenth1 by just adding 1 extra osc, like in this preset:

http://www.speedyshare.com/647401301.html

Sylenth1's detune has a much wider range than Synth1's though. In Synth1 detune from 1 to 100% is the same as detune from 15 to 70% in Sylenth1.

I also tried xhip, which uses a different unison distribution (with a distribution parameter) that makes it sound different (but not 'better' to my taste). Also max detune in xhip is only like 53% detune in Sylenth1.

So I think the difference you are referring to is caused mainly because you're using high levels of detuning faster than with others synths.

By using 2 or more oscs in Sylenth1 with different detuning settings you can create a wide range of different detuning distributions by the way. But maybe having 9 voices per oscs instead of 8 is useful too so maybe I'll add that in a future update.

The hotfix seemed to mess up some other gui refreshing parts, so I put the original files back. I'll have another try at fixing it.

Hi Lennard,

I think I know what bwwd means.
Im not sure if this is correct but does Sylenth 1 use linear detunings? Because I am sure that the JP8000 (since thats what bwwd compared it with) uses exponential detunings.

Here is a nice image I found:

http://hendrix.uoregon.edu/~dlivelyb/ph ... _graph.gif

That one is about distance and speed but the same principal applies to my thought.
In the JP (Purple curve) one can make nice pads because the ocs detune only a little in the beggining and then they get a rapid jump.
Perhaps in Sylenth1 the detunings are linear like in the dotted line?
Then perhaps the people that want the smooth effect, cant get it because they pass the sweetspot too fast.

Maybe you could change the detuning code to be exponential? But maybe this will ruin some patches or include a button or an option in the menu to switch between these two detunings.

Please don't change the Unison in Sylenth1, unless its as an additional option.

Aside from the fact it would change the sound of a lot of presets, I actually really like the Sylenth1's Unison. Much better than most other soft-synths.

I had a Roland JP8000 for 2 years and I really don't get the obsession some people still have with its supersaw, as if thats the definitive unison saw. It really aint all that. Don't get me wrong its a nice sound, but I personally don't rate its supersaw as all that great by todays standards of synths (both soft and hard)

The Sylenth1 has its own sound and is NOT meant to be a JP8000 recreation imho, it should stay that way :)

JP-8000 supersaw sometimes doesnt sound so good without chorus or when i play it too long. But lower values of detuning like strings and jupiter, juno sounds detune sounds ok for me.
Its just if i want to make smooth strings with sylenth and fully opened filter then i cant cause i hear separate saws in the sound when i detuning them, they traveling too slow ,sometimes chorus is helpful here but for example in synth1 you dont need it and you have nice strings without any fx.
Adamtrance i think there is something within your information and its true.
Yes sylenth is not a rolands clone or any other synth clone but ONE good sound with stacked saws would be really nice in it.JP8K doesnt have unison but can throw nice pads and strings.
More voices in detune its a good idea !Thats nice.
Xhip have 16 voices in detune by default and you can decrease them,Urs added 11 voices to zebra2 and you could make trance saws with only one osc.

Hi Adam,

You mean the amount of detuning varies exponentially with the knob value right? Sylenth1 already does that, at knob settings from 0 to 30% the detuning difference is only very small, while from 70 to 100% it's huge.

Don't forget that Sylenth1 has 4 oscs that can be used to create virtually ANY type of detuning you like. The example preset I posted before is a pretty accurate recreation of synth1's detuning, but ofcourse you can do much more than that. Try using 2 oscs with 7 voices each for example and give them a different detune value.

The only reason to make it 9 voices instead of 8 is that with an even number of voices there is no voice at exactly the center frequency. I think that's the most important difference that you're hearing. It's very easy to recreate by using an extra osc ofcourse, but it may be nice when you can do it with 1 osc too.

Just wanted to chime in this thread and agree with Arksun that I like the detuning the way it is.

Also, kudos to the new Randomizer! Cool for getting some crazy sounds. Suggestion, like FL Studio, add a semi-randomizer, where no parameter goes past 50% of the current settings...that way, you can get similar but sufficiently different sounds too.

As always, great work...Keep it up!
