Anyone here who got Omnisphere?

I'm glad you find my questions so amusing. So far I've heard exactly what everybody else has heard - the patches you've chosen to showcase in your videos and in the contest and the patches Per was kind enough to demo for us. So far all of them have been exactly the kinds of sounds that put me off your last batch of products. Maybe there are 3000 patches waiting for me in the rest of the library that I'd want to use, but without any more information all I can do is guess.

Also, without a demo I can only guess if I'll experience the kinds of problems described in this thread:

If you guys post the reference manual and a voice list for download when you get a chance it would help but at the moment I just don't feel like gambling $500 on buzz.

I really hope this does not stir up issues here. I must say I thought it was a somewhat strange response from Eric. As was the general reference to KVR users. "KVR is awesome" as in what's wrong with us?

Like Kunilko, Per's demo really was not the kind of sounds I would get Omni for. (I appreciate the time Per put into getting the demo out).

The problem is Eric, without a demo we really do have to scan threads and You tube for anyone who wants to put an mp3 demo up. I really like the idea behind Omnisphere (many clearly agree) but it's one of the most bizarre approaches to marketing software I have seen.

I think the central issue for some is, what percentage of the Library is for unconventional sounds (which I appreciate is likely the key focus for Omni) and what percentage is for Basses, Pads, Leads e.t.c

I think you kindly provided info on the break down of included SOV content and other previous Spectrasonics sample Libraries compared to new content in Omni, but I would really like to know what the split is (roughly anyway) between unconventional sounds and other more familiar sounds. (Basses, Pads Leads)E.t.c

I can see how it could be an incentive to get it if there is no demo for it.

But...I don't think I would put Omnisphere into the category of Impulse buy (my opinion only of course). The whole 'search and find' approach to actually hearing what else it can do is very strange IMO.

I think Mp3 demos are on the way but can you clarify what is the familiar / unconventional sounds split in Omni...even a rough estimate?

It's funny...I've never tried omnisphere, but I do feel as though I have enough information to know pretty much precisely what i would get if i was to buy it (which i probably will as soon as the missus would let me. that hag. )

It would be my guess, from all I've read and seen, that creating your standard VA stuff on Omnisphere would be a breeze and you'd get very satifying results along those lines with the capability to push it even further. I think the focus of preset designers was to go beyond that already covered territory and really show the breadth and depth this "Synth" is capable of.

Doubting the capability of this thing to produce the standard stuff seems to me like someone who has not been paying close attention to all that has been revealed on its feature set.

Who's doubting that? It's obviously a capable engine. The trouble is, I've already got lots of capable engines so if I'm going to plunk down $500 I want to be sure I can use some of the bundled content.

I got it today from DV essex (I was the first customer to get it) hehe

installed in a lot less than 5 hour, more like 2 ish.

first impressions, AMAZING, lots of really musical, playable patches along with some real deep atmospheric stuff.

as many other users say it will take a good while to understand the complexity of this beast.

i'm off to check out many more sounds.

Good question. Something I don't already have, I guess. I've got Komplete, Zebra, Surge and the GForce synths, so something I can't get out of those. I suppose I'd probably have the most use for atmospheric stuff like the patches you find in Absynth or some rawer sounds like those in Massive but with better sound quality than either.

I particularly appreciate sound design that considers performance controls. This is one area where most of the instruments I have fall down so if the Omni library consistently assigns useful and interesting performance controls in patches that would be another selling point for me. It's still not clear to me what the engine offers in this respect though. The macro control approach that Surge, Zebra, Massive and Absynth use is pretty close to ideal I think, but only the Massive library makes use of it in almost every sound.

No Erik , we haven't heard the 4000 sounds of Omnisphere , we've just heard what you want us to hear ( apart from the kind contribution of Per Lichtman ) . And those sounds , incredibly beautifull and compelling as they are , do not fit into the needs of everyone . They all seem like prophecies that want to stand on their own and demand their own song to shine ; no " team work " here . Of course it's just my personal perception !!! ... anyone who is reading this may think " what an asshole !!! " , and be totally right ... in his/her own perception . What some of us are saying is : we are sure that you have put in Omnisphere what we need too , but we need to be " completely " sure before we spend the money ! . Speaking of myself , I don't consider the money I earn " mine " . It's my family's money . I don't believe there are attacks here ... I think that we are suggesting the way to sell more Omnispheres ! .

I've been very interested in Omnisphere since I heard about it, but I've already got a lot of great synths. Why should I blind buy this one?

Sure, ideally there would be audio demos to give buyers an idea/overview of the content - and maybe that's soon to come? I'd suspect however that these demos will be keen to showcase their excellent preset design, rather than the stock content. There are audio demos for the included Spec libraries you could check out on their website for a start.

With the vast capabilities of the core engine I'd venture you could produce almost any sound imaginable with included content and oscillators.

This made it a lot easier to make an informed buying decision on an expensive instrument I couldn't really demo. Without this kind of information I'm not really willing to take Omni on faith, particularly after buying Stylus RMX a while ago only to discover that I didn't want to use *any* of the bundled sounds.

If RMX put you off likewise Trilogy and Atmosphere along with old spectrasonics sample cds, you shouldn't consider Omnisphere at all.It means you don't like the sound concept of the guys. By the way Omni runs for 4 days in demo mode.So if you have a friend who has it you can install and check for 4days and decide then. I don't know if this is against the copyright stuff though

Guys, maybe a suggestion- don't buy Omnisphere until you see demo's up. Pretty simple. You wouldn't buy a new model car without at least checking it out in person- so sit tight and enjoy what the early-adopters are offering to us. Eventually Eric will release samples (and most likley user-submitted songs- why pay his sound designers to make up songs when the public will gladly do it for free- makes total sense to me). I too wish they would do what NI does and have a jukebook that you can sample sounds from for each of their instruments- they just don't do it that way.

Just be intrigued by it and see how it evolves (I can't wait to see how they handle sound expansion- that alone will be worth it to me).

That's what I tend to suspect. Spectrasonics obviously makes quality stuff but so far it hasn't been my style. I'm curious to see if Omni is different but, based on what little information is available so far, it doesn't sound like it is.
