I completely agree with you.

We're working on getting that together. It'll take awhile though, because it needs to be comprehensive in it's approach.

I guess more people than you might expect

For one, I'm one of those people whose interest in electronic music was sparked by early demoscene pioneers who pushed their 8 and 16 bit computers to the limit, releasing some magnificent ug music.

Space debris rokkaa.

To stay on topic, yeah, I'm looking forward to diving into Omnisphere, and it would be great to hear in this thread what people can coax out of it.

Curious, is there a spot where registered users can discuss things in a forum like situation with other individuals who own omnisphere and who are trying to learn things about omnisphere ? Without the constant need for debate? :help:

Yeah, I saw this coming the day of release when no patch demos were posted. If you're not familiar with Atmosphere and other Spectrasonics products you're probably scratching your head right now wondering why they didn't spend a little less time on those flashy videos and more time making mp3 demos of patches. I'm on board and I've already ordered my upgrade (I got Atmosphere with the full intention of ending up with Omnisphere) but it is bizarro that so much marketing went into this product and the most important thing got left for later.

So, to you head scratchers out there, it's only a guess, but if Omnisphere is anything like the other Spectrasonics products I own it will have TONS of bread and butter sounds as well as oddball stuff. Why they didn't hire an intern or ask some of the patch designers to go through and record some of the high-lights from each category is beyond me, but so be it.

I know it's a gamble, but I'm sure it won't be much of one. Even if you hate the patches it comes with you can make your own, so what's the big deal? Haven't they already said they're going to include future support for bringing in your own samples?

I'm glad you find my questions so amusing. So far I've heard exactly what everybody else has heard - the patches you've chosen to showcase in your videos and in the contest and the patches Per was kind enough to demo for us. So far all of them have been exactly the kinds of sounds that put me off your last batch of products. Maybe there are 3000 patches waiting for me in the rest of the library that I'd want to use, but without any more information all I can do is guess.

Also, without a demo I can only guess if I'll experience the kinds of problems described in this thread:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3243125

If you guys post the reference manual and a voice list for download when you get a chance it would help but at the moment I just don't feel like gambling $500 on buzz.
I really hope this does not stir up issues here. I must say I thought it was a somewhat strange response from Eric. As was the general reference to KVR users. "KVR is awesome" as in what's wrong with us?

Like Kunilko, Per's demo really was not the kind of sounds I would get Omni for. (I appreciate the time Per put into getting the demo out).

The problem is Eric, without a demo we really do have to scan threads and You tube for anyone who wants to put an mp3 demo up. I really like the idea behind Omnisphere (many clearly agree) but it's one of the most bizarre approaches to marketing software I have seen.

I think the central issue for some is, what percentage of the Library is for unconventional sounds (which I appreciate is likely the key focus for Omni) and what percentage is for Basses, Pads, Leads e.t.c

I think you kindly provided info on the break down of included SOV content and other previous Spectrasonics sample Libraries compared to new content in Omni, but I would really like to know what the split is (roughly anyway) between unconventional sounds and other more familiar sounds. (Basses, Pads Leads)E.t.c

I can see how it could be an incentive to get it if there is no demo for it.

But...I don't think I would put Omnisphere into the category of Impulse buy (my opinion only of course). The whole 'search and find' approach to actually hearing what else it can do is very strange IMO.

I think Mp3 demos are on the way but can you clarify what is the familiar / unconventional sounds split in Omni...even a rough estimate?

Thanks!

Like I and others have said earlier in the thread, if you already have plenty of samplers and synths you'd want to know exactly what your $$ are getting you that you don't already have. For those of us that haven't been persuaded by previous Spectrasonics instruments this is a pretty reasonable question, don't you think?

Post

Its now all installed and I can't stop play, the sound quality is amazing on this, the number of quality samples you have on this, the presets, the number of FX and presets for them, the synth. Its atmosphere up to the level of omnisphere, its really that good, honestly, with all the hype i was a little down about to start with. All usable sounds, its like a GM set for atmospheric and really interesting sounds. Even looking at the synth as i'm playing it, it feels right.

For me this synth feels right, thats it. I could name 30 synths and modules brillant. But this is the first, i can see this fits like a glove. I've been making and playing music going over to mates with studios for years. So far stable browsing and playing, not recorded yet. Working in SX 3.

I love the live features, I feel really comfortable with the idea of using this on stage.

Top stuff Spectrasonics, you can tell these guys have put there heart and soul into this.

Thankyou

Edited for 1-2-Many ;) and the rest of you guys.

I have a collection of great synths. When I listen to the sounds I get out of them, I hear no deficiency. The range and quality of what I have already is superb. So why gamble at all?

I watched all the promotional videos and they did not tell me much. As far as informing me about the synth, they didn't particularly. So I know little about it, don't know what it sounds like, and cannot try it. ::shrugs::

Anyway, my own little musings don't matter. Obviously lots of people are buying it and the synth will be a success so it works for many.

Even though I wont be buying, I still look forward to hearing mp3's just cause I enjoy the art of synthesis.

cheers

@Paradigm: Check your keyboard. I think your period and comma keys got reversed.

Could anyone be so kind to answer some questions regarding modulation options?

1) There seems to be no zoom-page for the LFOs, and from the interface demo I can't see a Sample+Hold option. So is there one? 6 LFOs per layer or per patch?

2) How many slots are available in the mod matrix per layer? I can see next/previous buttons top-right: to flip pages for more slots?

3) Is velocity available as modulation source in the mod matrix? If so, can the response curve be adjusted for each parameter individually? (If not, consider this my 1st feature request as a potential customer :D )

Thanks in advance.

Yes, sample and hold is one of the LFO shapes.

There are 24 slots per part with 12 on each of two pages.

Yes, velocity is available as a modulation source and there is a rather extensive velocity curve editor.
