Hmmm...not good. I was toying with the idea of buying a V-Machine for the stage. Urs - is the V-Machine really underpowered for Zebra2, or could this be fixable?j45 wrote:...Zebra starts to break up after 2 to 3 notes on the V Machine. I don't know. Maybe they have some settings that may help increase performance?Howard wrote:Urs - is the V-Machine really underpowered for Zebra2, or could this be fixable?

Ok, I'm drawn to respond to this discussion, hopefully it will be seen objectively. Yesterday I planned on returning my V Machine. It's great little box and great concept. It's just not powerful enough to do what I'm used to.Urs wrote:I don't know. And I'm feeling life would be less complicated for me without it. I've spent way too much time in the last week testing and trying things out than I should be. It's hard not to keep thinking of ideas. Though I have a little less than 2 weeks left to return the V machine for a full refund something keeps me from doing so. Maybe it's the Geek in me? The hope that it will fill a spot in my rig that's missing? Don't know, not quite sure at the moment.
The quality of the hardware is good. It seems very solid, though I could see the buttons breaking down over time. Perhaps years. Another thing. The kind of support that is coming in from Danny and the rest of the team is outstanding. You will not get this from Roland, Korg, or others, in this kind of personal way. The closest I can think of is from Karma Lab's Stephen Kaye who must never get any sleep but he responds in the same manner and direct, personal way that Danny does. I'm sure there are others that are just as good if not better. Those are the only I've got experience with.
More testing. I was able to load the Korg Legacy Wavestation into the V Machine. I had to go back to the original 1.0 release because the Legacy Digital has a dongle which you can't currently use with the V. The Wavestation works great and via bank select all 11 banks can be selected. A bit cumbersome without the GUI but can be done. So far so good but then when you play more than 2-3 notes the buffer starts breaking up. Even with 512, 256, 128. 1024 even for pads is just not happening for me. You can turn off the effects globally and it helps somewhat but in Korg philosophy the effect is part of the patch. In the case of the Wavestation is quite true.
Same with the Zebra. You can hold one note and it's sounds great in the V. get beyond 2 and it's frustrating. The only plugs that don't break up are the pre-installed ones, plus a few I have found work pretty well are Augur, some of the HG Fortune older plugins, Crystal works ok but it can break up depending the patch, MinimoogVA, ARP2600VA, etc.
Anyhow, just adding to the list of discussions,

I tried Zebra CM and it worked but again the same issue as with Zebra 2, presets not being recognised but you can do the same workaround as Zebra 2 which is pick your favorite sounds and save them as separate presets within a V Machine bank.Howard wrote:Anyone tried Zebra-CM or Podolsky in the V-Machine?

hello howard,
i did a test with zebra2 at the v-machine. the flute-sound (read this topic one or two pages before) can be played with 7-8 tones at one time.
if you are interested in a test with a special (or two or three or five
) presets just say it and i will do it for you.
zebraCM i cant test, podolski can i test. tripple cheese is working fine.
just post what you are interested in and i will try it.
bye the way. it is very easy to make a midi learn with the v-machine for the x-y parameter.
happy new year

Nothing specific, max - just trying to find out whether I should buy one of those boxes. I'm tempted anyway because of the price and "form factor"mäxchen wrote:zebraCM i cant test, podolski can i test. tripple cheese is working fine. just post what you are interested in and i will try it.

The form factor is cool but at the price you could get a cheap or second hand laptop and soundcard and have more power with less compatability problems.Howard wrote: Nothing specific, max - just trying to find out whether I should buy one of those boxes. ok, howard
i thought you are interested in the power of the v-machine and how much notes can be played at the same time at some special presets.
thats why i bought this machine. it is small, it needs 20s to boot, i can carry all my plugins and dont need a laptop. at home i have no piano just a wheigted hammer keyboard. to play "piano" i dont need to boot my laptop and start a vst host... thats very important for me to sit down and play and not to wait for same computer:)
for me the power of this machine is enough (but it can be allways more
).

Just as a rough measure of its power, especially for u-he synths. You answered that already - thanks!mäxchen wrote:i thought you are interested in the power of the v-machine and how much notes can be played at the same time at some special presets.
