Dean Roddey wrote:He walked in the door within minutes of my PM'ing you indicating that we needed to work out the price of the shipping. It was quite possible he wouldn't have bought, and it wasn't obvious to me from your previous PM whether you understood that shipping was your cost since you'd only offered to transfer the price without shipping, so it was also quite possible you'd have balked at that.

Again, sorry you feel bad, but such is life. If I'd told you yesterday you could have it, I'd have waved this guy off. But it was so close that I feel it was well within my rights to choose the better deal. Everyone who was looking to buy it were certainly doing the same, and wouldn't have hesitated to dump me if something better came along in similar circumstances, and I wouldn't have blamed them.
A man is as good as his word. Do you or don't you do what you say you're going to do?

Up until now you've had a good record but this is not good. I'm sure you'll recover from my disappointment but this is the feedback thread and this what you "get" for doing "that". Such is life.

It's a nice guitar. I'm sure the new owner is very happy with it. I'm sorry it's not me. I thought it was going to be me 'cause you told me so. Now I'm very sad because you, and there is no nice way to put this, lied to me.

What can I say? I disagree. I took the better simultaneous deal. It's not like I could afford to do otherwise. I wouldn't be selling this very nice guitar for a very low price if I could afford the other stuff I need. Even as it is I'm barely going to squeek out the couple things I needed to get.

If you'd offered the original asking price when you had the chance, you'd have it. But you wanted to think and you wanted to horse trade, and that's fine, but sometimes that means you lose to someone whose willing to pay now and pay what's asked. You'd not transferred any money yet, and we hadn't agreed on shipping costs, and I wasn't sure that you were going to agree to the shipping costs, and I had a buyer right here, right now.

Anyway, that's all I have to say on the subject. Posterity can judge me as they will when they read through this thread. But I don't think I did anything anyone else wouldn't have done.

In my experience when honest people make a deal they do it honorably. They aren't just taking the first reasonable offer hoping something better will come along before they have to honor their commitments.

You made a deal with me and then broke my heart to make another $100 bucks and save yourself some footwork. There's no honor in that.

i wouldn't feel right giving a seller a hard time if i didn't offer the full asking price to begin with. that's just my opinion though.

Your opinion has been noted.

This isn't a $250 dollar knock off. We're talking $1300 bucks. I don't know how much trouble it is for you to scrape up that kind of cash and work up the courage to commit to a unknown guitar, from an unknown source but for me it was pretty wrenching.

It wasn't nearly as bad as being told that because he could make another buck or two and not have to ship, that his word counted for nothing.

Once I committed and he accepted, I had my heart set on that guitar. I'm a little pissed but I'm trying to be big about it. If he'd taken his feedback like a man and stopped trying to justify screwing me over it would have been a lot better for him. I'm still pulling my punches.

I don't want to bust his balls but for anyone that deals with him in the future it should be known that you may not be able to count on him to deliver, if he has a chance to make a better deal with someone else.

I DO know what it's like to try to scrape together $1300. I also know what it's like NOT to be able to scrape together $1300, so that you have to sell something in order to do it. I have no money, OK? I'm working like a dog 7 days a week trying to start a company and I've been flat broke for 6 years now, and I mean 'barely can pay the rent and eat' type broke. If I want something new I basically have to sell something. And $100 more wasn't a small amount to me, and he was right there at the finish line at the same time. So I called the tie in the direction that got me that extra $100.

So I'm obviously scum. I accept my complete scumbagness and admit it in public for everyone to know. I'm going to have a shirt made that indicates this and wear it every day.

OK? Can we get over it now and move on? It wasn't a kidney. It's a guitar of which there are lots of them out there for the same sorts of prices, and it's not like you are going to die because you didn't get this one. I've been looking at them, and I'll happily point you to some others you could look into, if that will help.

You said you wanted a sunburst type one anyway. Here's are some to look at, all from Harmony Central, which is a well known, respectable site. A couple of these are nice sunbursty types.

More expensive since it's only 3 years old, but it looks nice.

Here's a drop dead gorgeous black custom. Not sure of the price.

This one may be an excellent choice:

One like mine, who is indicating an $1100 price, though no pics:

Another one that might be right down your alley:

That's all very sad but you should stop trying to find an excuse where there isn't one. And that's a crap analogy but if you insist I'll work with it. I clearly finished the race first but then someone waved $100 bucks in your face and you changed your call in their favor. Would you have dumped me for $25 bucks? $50 bucks? ... Or is $100 the minimum honor sells for these days?

Well.. maybe not scum but you did screw up. If you're not screwing something up in this life, you're not doing anything at all. Try not to do "this" again though some people around here aren't as nice and forgiving as I am. Live and learn.
OK? Can we get over it now and move on? It wasn't a kidney.

Oh.. I'm still pissed because it was a nice guitar but I was over it to start with. You didn't give me any other choice. I would have stopped at the first feedback post but there are these people that keep replying so naturally the tread goes on.
I'll happily point you to some others you could look into, if that will help.
No, I don't think so Dean old boy. I think you and I are pretty much done at this point. Have a happy new year. Me-> :(

I hate to jump in, I know I'm really disliked for being a prick on Kvr anyways, but give Dean Roddey a break. It is not, he f**ked you, or stole your money. He sold a product to the guy who was ready first.

I realize he, "committed," to you, but where I'm from...............

A deal is not done until the contract is signed, and the money is in the bank. You simply haven't bought something, until you buy something.

It is rude, to make a fuss, in the feedback thread, unless you got RIPPED OFF somehows, money traded hands, and you were lied too, bad shipping, etc...

Furthermore, times are very tough for everybody right now. I could use $1300 like ten minutes ago.... I'm sure so could a lot of people.

If you needed to sell your car today, would you wait for the guy you committed to this morning, to show up at your door, or would you sell to the dude who just knocked and has cash in hand?

No you don't or you wouldn't do it. As far as I'm concerned we were done before I posted feedback on our deal. That's when you post feedback. You do it after you are done. If you're honest you tell how it went. I did that a long time ago. If you want to keep talking about it we'll keep talking about it. If people will just shut up about it then nobody will be talking about it anymore. hint hint

i would have dumped you for less than $10.

you are abusing the feedback thread at this point. talking about someone's honor over and over is completely out of line in this situation and really just makes you look like a prick. $100 is a good chunk of change. as a regular seller here, i am personally insulted by you mocking and belittling dean over this much money. he owes you NO explanation, though you owe him an apology for publically attacking his "honor" over something trivial. no money was exchanged. you were informed immediately by the seller and have lost nothing.

stop bitching and go find another guitar... unless you want to argue with me all day. because i'm snowed in and have nothing better to do. :box:

The sub-topic's had a run, and if everyone's said their part, why not let the thread move on into the next phase of its existence? Unless there's something left to discuss.

Other folks probably would like to post feedback, and would rather it not be swamped by an argument that's probably seen its best days.

Sold Alchemy to softska who was a pleasure to deal with.

Likewise, parma was quick and prompt to buy (Alchemy) from.

The feedback thread is the perfect place to put information like that. Thanks. :D
