I have more than an inkling that they're not happening at all.

T2 is already selling in Mackie's site for like 25 bucks... Maybe we will soon see Tracktion given away for free, like Propellerheads' Rebirth.

The discussion was perfectly reasonable before that. It was a discussion speculating about Tracktion's future, which is viewed optimistically by people who have no issues with it, and pessimistically by those who have problems with it on their systems.

Many of us are hesitant to use abandonware, with good reasons. Even if it works ok now, what will happen the next time we upgrade our ASIO drivers, or install a service pack? Do we want to have a lot of songs stuck in a DAW that we might not be able to install on the next generation of operating systems?

So, for those who have Tracktion working fine, and come into threads like this asking everyone else to stop complaining, understand that we have these discussions in hopes that Beno and Mackie will take note. If Tracktion IS being updated, and it's just a matter of policy that we know nothing about it, perhaps a thread like this can be used to demonstrate to the powers-that-be that non-communication might not be the best policy. So, instead of seeing a thread like this as a personal affront to your DAW software of choice, see it as an active community trying to make sure that this software is given the attention it deserves.
This post pretty well sums everything up. If traction is indeed abandoned like most of us here feel it is, What will happen with the next generation of computers and Traction compatibility? The Mac users have already gotten it up the ying yang with no fix in site for them. We will have 2 choices, make immediate WAV backups of each and every track just in case, and be prepared to own a dinosaur computer to continue using Traction while learning a new host to record with. There is already talk of Microsoft abandoning Vista and going with a new windows program for quite some time now. This is not new news friends. Not sure about you but it certainly has me worried.

While not wanting to step on anyones feet (unavoidable though), I think that if tracktion would be abandoned, it would be a good thing. Its got some good ideas, but I could never get my head around how slow and clunky the whole thing felt. Things like redrawing waveforms and moving around could not be anymore latent and devoid of tactility.

While I certainly admire a person who can look beyond that and work despite the graphical shortcomings, there are some offerings out that that do the basics right. Cubase, Live, and Logic, while costing more, are much more polished products and I think that sticking with a program like Tracktion which has no foreseeable future is perhaps not the best idea.

Simply put, you don't see companies like Steinberg cheapening their product by giving a previous version away for the cost of a magazine.

Cubase is an incredible program. While it has one of the steepest learning curves on the market, once you get adjusted to the flow, everything falls in place. I own Cubase 4 and will be upgrading to 5 in a couple of months once the bugs are worked out and the upgrade price drops.

Cubase doesn't have a huge learning curve unless you want to learn it inside and out. It really boils down to three windows depending on how you use the application.

Timeline
Mixer
Piano roll and/or Audio Editor

You can learn the basics in a day if you just understand that those are the main concepts. Then you just figure things out via trial and error or if you need to, by reading the manual. Sure theres plenty of other things but those just become apparent as they are needed.

And even if we have no such hopes, it's perfectly valid as unsatisfied customers to just piss about Tracktion to get it out of our systems. Even to all of the fanboys' dismay.

Where the Raw Material forum used to be a place where everyone advocated for Tracktion users who had problems, now not only do we have Mackie flipping us off, but we get to have other Tracktion users taunt us with their work as if to say "ha ha, look, it's not buggy for me and I'm getting lots of work done!"

So, for those of you who come in here and say, "Look at me, I've finished 30 albums and won ten Grammys with T3, I don't know what everybody else's problem is!", well, whoopdee-frikkin-do for you guys! I will keep this thread bookmarked and await the day when some driver update or change in your configuration puts you in the same boat as the rest of us, and you come here wondering why Mackie isn't reporting on the status of bug fixes. Oh, I will savor that day!

Everyone knows that prog rock uses 14 of 12 notes so how could it even compare?

Then you would be like "LOL that's not Dorian mode and you used // 5ths for 2 bars"

Go put on your HS band uniform, go to guitar center and buy another host.

Any chance you can all get back to griping about the lack of updates and quit busting each other's chops, please. Otherwise I'll lock this thread and every one that comes after it until people settle down again.

Simple rules:

1] people have the right to gripe.
2] people have the right to point out that the griping is just personal opinion and experience, and does not speak for all.
3] everyone has the right to make a point without getting a smug or self-righteous response.
4] (seriously now) the normal KvR rules apply! Offensive behaviour will get you official warnings/bans.

Oh, and ...

5] any other threads that appear and do little other than duplicate this thread will be deleted without warning or explanation. This is your warning. This is your explanation.
