Wow, such a manly voice. I'll stop doing a falsetto when imitating you from now on!Urs wrote:You mean something like this?

The interface of Zebra 2 does not do its sound justice.

I really do find this incomprehensible. Zebra is so easy to figure out. That is what first drew me to it. The signal path is so evident. At a single glance I understand how the modules are ordered and connected. I don't know any other complex synth that is so easy like this.zerocrossing wrote: Now, I'll gush nonstop on how much I love Zebra 2. It's probably my favorite synth, but mostly I use it as a preset player because figuring out the simplest thing in it is super confusing.
Just put the modules that you want in the grid and they auto connect. Mostly bypasses the need for 'patch cords' in the first place. Drag and drop to reorder them. How could it be more straightforward?

I've got to agree with pdxindy here... I don't understand how anyone could find Zebra confusing, especially compared with other large "modulars".pdxindy wrote:I really do find this incomprehensible. OK, first I want to say that the video rules. Much thanks for this.Howard wrote: I've got to agree with pdxindy here... I don't understand how anyone could find Zebra confusing, especially compared with other large "modulars".
I don't know why I find it confusing... could be as simple as I think in a "left to right" way. Granted, I don't "roll my own" that often in the patch department so I honestly have never spent a lot of time trying to figure it out, but doing a simple thing like assigning aftertouch to a parameter seems very unintuitive. I'm not the only one. This video is going to help a lot though. Shame I didn't know about it earlier.

PS: I like the Zebra GUI, it doesn't need a change. Just one thing. I've just bought the Uhbik FX'x and they're great

I think people confused by Z2 are initially drawn to it based on its reputation and on the excellent sounds it can make. I don't think they realize or understand what a "wireless modular synth" actually means.Howard wrote:I've got to agree with pdxindy here... It's interesting to see this thread fall into two categories. On one side we have "I know a couple of (fixed routing) synths and this Z2 thing is confusing." And on the other we have "I can see my signal path and change out modules in a snap!"
Sounds like Z2 is suffering from the problem of being too popular. And I'm sure that's a problem Urs doesn't mind having at all.
BTW loved the video Urs. I finally learned what FilterFM does on XMF! The knobs on that filter I still need to learn better esp Click and Bias.

Ok, as I feared would happen. I imagine those who have grown accustomed to zebra's interface love it and those who are probably newer dont' have that attachment to it.
I guess for me, like I have said in other threads, the preset browser is my least favourite part. Well that and that there is no search engine for presets.
My next point of complaint is definitely the arp.....dont' even know where to begin with what I dont' like about it
.
I think the whole 'no knobs' concept also bothers me. Took me awhile to figure out the coloured circles were knobs
...
Then I would love for presets for each module, for each effects unit, for the arp, for each module configuration, the ability to right click and save that configuration as a preset.....those are my wishes.
thanks for ignoring me now

I have two minor issues with the Z2 ui:
1. There's a very, very small visual difference between a parameter at 0.00 and 0.01, although the difference in sound can be huge.
2. The preset browser needs collapsable trees in a very bad way.
Other than that I can't think of any other interface that so effectively balances flexibility with efficiency.
