If you paid $3300 for a G5 mac then in November then yes, it is. They havent made them since about 2006, so you were a bit daft paying that much for one. But a G5 Powermac is indeed worth about $1000 now, depending on the spec.BlackMath wrote:I see so by your logic if I bought a Mac g5 last Nov. for $3300 and then tried to sell it now, July 2009, I should expect to only get $1000 for it??? Sorry but that's not the case.
Thanks for nothing Muse Research

I bought my JR Pro on Nov 2008. The price was about 8000 PLN what was equal to almost 4000$ at that time. The unit arrived to me failed, used to reset after couple minutes of working. Unit was sent to local dealer two times and started working fine when they replaced motherboard. When direct install was introduced I tried to upgrade Kontakt 3 and Receptor failed because log file was too big and no place left on HD to save user.reg file. My fault I started to check system myself instead of contacting support first. Result - I have paid about 220$ for sending HD to UK for OS reinstall.
After that I should be very disappointed with unit I paid my 3 months salary but I am not
There is no other unit on the market with Receptors functionality. I know I can have better Receptor 2 for more money, but I don't need them. For live using is far enough for me, for music composing also. I am not doing classical arrangements with 80 instruments playing simultaneously.
For me this is the same situation as with cars. When you buying new one you start to lose money just after you left your dealer. The same situation is with electronic gears.
You should not measure instrument value in dollars, you should measure with music you are able to create. Do you thing Mozart was thinking how much he can get for used clavier?
[edit Feb, 25 2010] let me inform I totally changed my opinion after I noticed what Museresearch answered here concerning 1.8 OS version for Receptor 1

My plans exactly...
Wait until SSD prices are fairly inexpensive before you get rid of it though...a 120 gig or higher drive should make it quite useful again.
I did quite a bit of experimenting with Linux and WineHQ, and I was able to install all of my VST plug-ins for use in V-Stack or energyXT. The stand-alone versions worked as well. It is good to have an alternative to XP in case it is not available in the future.
The only problem I can see is USB authorized software, but I believe there is a work around for that too.
Good luck.

A Roland 2080 retailed for 1,995.00 in 1998 and the expansion cards retialed for 395.00. Fully Loaded at 35% off and it was a 3,500 investment.
By 2002 the price was 900 used and 150 on the cards or 2000 for the unit.
10 years later the cards go for 75.00 and the unit for 350.00 or 850.00 fully loaded.
A comparable Rev C with Komplete and Ivory and Atmosphere and Scarbees was about the same price ($3,500). Far better sounding. More flexible. Will the Rev Cs depreciate quicker and wear out quicker? Likely. Hard drives are what they are. iLoks at least protect the software so it can be reinstalled.

I agree...they promised complete compatibility between the Ik Multimedia programs and the NI Komplete 5 suite....guess what.....twice in a row (following a factory reservice/re-image of the harddrive) the combination of these to companies VSTs have been lethal to my Rev C Muse Receptor. Now that my warranty has expired the company deleted all of my support tickets without notifying me and they want to charge me money again for the exact same problem when it's been less than 3 months since they last re-imaged the harddrive.
So in 3 months I used the Muse Recepto less than 50 hours and now I have a total brick since the last thing I did was attempt to put Miroslave Phil on it....the thing is stuck in an endless loop
NOTE: MUSE will NOT allow us to have super user access to repair the log file which means this box is totally meant to be locked into a continual service conttract or you will be crying like I am...
which proves that this company is:
PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE

Oh and another thing...Once they recover your harddrive and send it back you'll use up another Authorization on your plugins so after the 5th time in the case of Komplete 5 you'll have to rebuy Komplete 5...this is total bulls***

bitfader,
First off, let me say that I'm sorry you feel so frustrated. Let me continue by adding that it has been a regular practice of our support staff to close tickets that have been inactive for over 30 days. It just helps our support staff stay more organized, and is not meant to be interpreted as a refusal for support, users can re-open any ticket that's been closed by our support staff.
That being said, lets take a look at your issues:
Firstly, we do not hear about this incompatibility between IK and Native Instruments so I'm curious if it's something that could be solved with an update. Either way it'll be of great help if you can provide me with some sort reference like a ticket number from our support help desk if we addressed this in the past. Or, if you like you can just open a new ticket about the issue.
Regarding you're question about the log file, I'm wondering if you've installed any NI updates lately. Certain NI updates will cause a runaway log file which causes either a "stuck in initializing error" or "recovery mode" error. As you mention in your post this can be fixed by editing the log file, which is owned by "root" user. In cases where the user is out of warranty anyways, and seems to be technical enough to handle the task we will provide instructions for how to edit this file and get receptor booting again. If you haven't yet asked for help with that I recommend you do so in a ticket, or just remind us in one of your already open tickets. If you keep on getting a runaway log like this, and you HAVENT been installing the NI updates we need to know as that changes the nature of the problem a lot (bad RAM perhaps?).
Lastly, I'd like to mention that the Komplete 5 authorizations are actually limited by machine ID, not number of installs. The Machine ID is a unique identification that the NI software makes for your Receptor (or windows, or mac) that is defined by the CPU and motherboard. So as long as we re-clone a drive and put that drive back on a system with the same processor and motherboard the machine ID will remain the same as the last time it registered on that Receptor. In other words it does not use another Komplete license. However, if something happens to your Receptor's mother board or CPU etc.. that causes it to need to be replaced then your machine ID will be different and use up another authorization.
In any case if all you're authorizations are gone for Komplete we can contact Native Instruments to get you more. We keep records of every time a user's receptor has been in for a repair or upgrade. Once presented with this evidence the folks at NI are usually fine with freeing up another license or two at no charge.
Lastly, I'd like to remind you (and everyone here at KVR) that the Plugorama Help Desk is still 100% free, and if you submit a ticket there during support hours issues are regularly addressed within 1 hour of submission. I'm sorry you're having continued frustration with your Receptor, but our support staff is dedicated to helping you get it figured out. Just re-open any tickets that may have been closed, or create some new ones and we'll continue helping you out.
