EDIT BY MELDAPRODUCTION: THERE IS NO DESTRUCTIVE CODE / VIRUS OR SOMETHING. IT IS JUST A MESSAGE DISCOURAGING FROM USING CRACKS. AND SINCE IT IS PROBABLY TOO HARD, IT WILL BE REPLACED WITH SOMETHING ELSE.

I've just been reading up on this MDrummer virus you've (allegedly) put into your latest 2.15 version. Apparently it destroys system files at will.

Quite frankly, I think the developers of MDrummer should be prosecuted. How many years do you get for writing viruses in the US these days? 8 years or something?

The fact is that, now, fully licensed and paid up users of MDrummer have potentially destructive virus like code on their systems curtsey of Melda Productions. The fact that this virus like code only activates if the software "appears" unlicensed or tampered with is NOT the point. Some viruses don't activate immediately, they're still viruses (waiting to happen). Any virus like code which is wilfully developed to harm peoples computers is breaking the law. Even if the code doesn't activate, it has the "possibility" of activating and that my friends is ILLEGAL!

What happens if a memory stick or hard disk file gets corrupted? What happens if someone writes code (in say a competitors plugin!) to tamper peoples valid licenses? It's a damn quick way to kill off the competition. Example:

Hey I'm trying to sell a new drum based plugin. Melda Productions are my competitors. Mmm... This user is using MDrummer (I don't want that!) I know, I'll get my plugin to tamper with the MDrummer license. That will kill this customers computer and it will look like Melda Productions are responsible! That will stop them from selling it and this user from making any future purchases from them!

Quite frankly, I can't believe you've got the balls to treat your paying customers in this way. You know how it works by now surely? The only SAFE version of your software NOW is the version which will be cracked and have this vile code removed!!!

All I can think is that Santa never brought you any Christmas presents and now you blame the rest of the world you horrible misanthropic monsters. You must be pretty desperate.

Personally I wouldn't touch your gear with yours. If I was ever going to, I most CERTAINLY wouldn't now!

Do you think? I wonder how ibtl about it you would feel if this alleged bit of nasty code toasted your computer.

Laws are there for a damn good reason. Personally, I don't think they've checked with their lawyers on this one (I don't think they have lawyers in fact) but if they haven't I'm pretty sure they're going to need some.

Woop-woop!
That's the sound of da police!

Be interesting to see what others think though.

Well, you keep saying "alleged" which implies you don't have proof or you are not sure.

So, yes... IBTL

What f*cking virus! :?:

Apparently, it states so on Melda's very own "new in this version" splash screen!

Every artist forum I've been on this morning has a thread going about it. I know a chap who has a fully licensed copy and he's shitting himself because he's updated to 2.15!!! Not the most computer literate bloke in the world, so it's 100 times worse for him than a normal mortal. I think he'd commit suicide rather than face the prospect of reloading his computer.

and I quote: "MDrummer 2.15 contains special destructive code which destroy system files on computers with tampered with or cracked versions". Or something to the like.

I totally LMFAO. Put the fear of god into your customers, that's what I say.

Uhhhh.... link please??

From their site I found only this...
MDrummer 2.15 changes
Released 64-bit version.
Integrated effects can synchronize with rhythm/host.
Added pitch envelope to MSampler.
Added SF2 import.
Added pitch setting to a layer.
MDelay now contains 2 taps with panorama and synchronization.
MLimiter even harmonics range extended to 500%.
Extended MAutopan pan-law range.
MEqualizer band enable highlight.
MAnalyzer changes graph color with psychoacoustic simulation.
Added introduction screen with elementary info.
MIDI key editor automatically scrolls to a selected key.

Seriously... provide a link. You've made an extreme accusation and I don't see anything to back up the claim.

I'm done searching for you. It's your thread.

I'm actually upgrading... :) I'll tell you.
You can't always get what you waaaant...

I shit you not. I wouldn't come on to stir up a fake virus thread.
That would just be sad as f*ck beyond all imagining.
I have nothing against Melda Production. I own none of their products.

Upgrade. Honestly, it's there. I have it on very good authority.
On their very own slash 2.15 update screen.
The only difference between the list you've posted there (from their site) and the splash screen is this extra line telling users that this new version contains destructive code!
It's pretty obvious they're not going to promote that on their site. Sales would cease immediately. They only inform you of it when you've paid / downloaded and install (and MORE SERIOUSLY) run the software for the first time. It's like "Hey, thanks for the warning though Melda Productions!!! NOT!!!".

Stanlea, do everyone a favour if you can dude, post up a screen print to the offending splash screen. I'm just going to sit back now and watch the comments. My work here is done.

is 'selectively remove parts of your system' provably meant to mean 'selectively remove parts of your operating system' as opposed to 'selectively remove parts of your MDrummer system' ? The latter is common in copy protection schemes (cf Zebra's screen-melt).
The former would be a very serious issue, but is there any proof that that's what is actually meant; remember Melda are not from an English-speaking country (they're Czech, it seems) so this could simply be a language issue.
