being a mac (logic) user myself i can say there's no reason at all.
Apple claimed that AU was a superior format, but fact is it isn't. it's just another format. exactly what the world neeeds. :hihi:

*cough* what's the source of that figure?

Going by your website, your studio may be professional, but it's not commercial.
Wavsen.com - Professional mix delivery platform with client approval, watermarking, and portfolio page builder.

If you ignore Synthmaker and Synthedit which I honestly don't want on Mac anyways, this thread is pretty much bullshit. There are tons of free/cheap AU plugs made by smaller developers.

huh?

Lets straighten out our terminology shall we:

I am a professional, as I earn my living entirely from sound engineering.

My studio is commercial because I charge my clients to record in it.

My web-site is amateur becasue I knocked it up in an afternoon with a wysiwyg editor.

Here are some freely available Mac facts:

> Apple's 2009 user share estimates are between 2.5% and 3.4% of the PC market.

> Their gross margin 2009 is around 33%

> Dell's by comparison is 18%

> Mac have a high margin strategy which extends across computers, mp3 players, everything

> Steve Jobs rescued Apple some years ago when he implemented the high margin strategy

> He created the appearance of Apple being more cool and worth paying more for, ie, lifestyle and simplicity

(er ... lifestyle and simplicity benefits in exchange for a higher price tag?)

> The cheaper Mac notebooks are Apple's attempt to follow Acer who have nicked the notebook market from Dell.

You pays your money and you takes your choice

An idiot on Set Theory:

There are probably lots. The majority of those that do have a Mac, though, will probably be running ProTools. I wonder why you conveniently forget that bit? If your argument is based on the pervasiveness of a specific platform in commercial studios, shouldn't you actually be concerned about RTAS plugins?

Or are you just being disingenuously selective?

But 24% of KVR visitors. A reasonable market size!

Now THAT's some useful data. Thanks, Ben!

(And interesting, I didn't think it'd be that high)

there are many, agreed.
About the question: comparing data provided by our users, I guess AU is not more than 15% of the market and is not even the richest one (RTAS). 35% of mac users should be a correct percentage, but many of them are using cubase/live or PT. And the plugin market is a niche. I hope someone will be more accurate on numbers.
