Does SynthMaster2 sound "thin"? Let's discuss

Well, just my feelings on it not everyone thinks the same thing sounds warm or cold or digital or "analog". Anyway, if you manage to have anyone do a sample for you I'll be up for the challenge.

No worries.....
We definitely disagree sometimes, I know that.

You really need some sound design skills. Using the factory bank of * any * vst vs any * hardware * is not a good way to judge the sound quality.
Check out the init patch, and f**k about. Helix is very, very good.

The topic is Synthmaster 2, not Helix. Back on topic please...

Personally, I think Synthmaster can sound pretty thick when all the Oscillators on both layers are used and combined with proper use of the EQ. As most of my stuff came a little late in the game, I don't think any of my patches were used in the audio demos....managed to get quite a few powerful supersaw type patches in there for the Trance guys.

I tried the first version of Synthmaster and I thought it sounded very thin. Just really cheap, digitalish-metalic sounding and no in your face sound. I don't know, the sound just doesn't jump out at you like good VA synths. And judging by those 2 audio demos and demos on the website, part 2 sounds thin as well. I'm not going to even waste my time to download the demo.
There's already plenty of more VA plugins with more POP than this one. No thanks. Sorry. The GUI does look awesome though, but the audio engine behind it, meh, it can use some work.

I agree on that. Our next challenge is to come closer to that soundghettosynth wrote:I still don't think either one sounds like an MKS-80 though.

So to the topic, which synth is sounding fat in your ears? With this i mean the pure osc-sound, only 1 osc with a saw with no effects....
Do you think the most people would here a big difference, if you would post a mp3 with 5 examples inside, and would make a poll and write "find the virus-saw in this mp3" the most user would don't find it.
Also how many "only-software" users says about new vst's "ohhh he sounds soo fat and analog" - but the most off them have never heard a real analog synth(virus is NOT analog!) thats also a prob, many pure vst-users don't really know how analog sounds, but they thinking, they know how analog synths are sounding. The most of them also don't know where is the difference of the osc-mixer in a vst and a vco in a analog synth.
So how can sm2 sounds fatter?
-change the wave-models in the basic oscs(no clear digital ramp, try to emulate a analog wave - for example pulse, polaris)
-hidden tube-modul
-hidden eq with special fixed setting(smooth use)

The hidden EQ/tube is for the modelling of the final amp stage of an analog, right? We might add those, but not "hidden"
As for basic waveforms: we might allow user using any wavetable for basic/additive waveforms and that's solve the problem entirely

For the analog-sound i send you tonight something(+ something for the other vst-idea of that we talkt some weeks ago)
wavetable, sure they can be source for a analog wave, but wavetables loses in the deeps on power/punch and in the highs on brilliance - in the most cases.
Or perhaps use for the basic oscs a "pimped" wavetable engine, perhaps with higher resolution and more bits.
