I'll first finish the work on the drive modes. I recently finished the editor for the "drive curve" so it is not possible to draw a custom drive curve.

So for drive ordering/modes, there'll be 4 settings:

1. Drive OFF
2. Drive BEFORE filter
3. Drive AFTER filter
4. Drive INSIDE filter

I believe those 4 settings are MORE than enough to model any sort of drive :D

The curve has its own custom preset section so you can save the curve as a preset.

I'll post sound samples + screenshots this weekend!

Cheers!

And of course I shouldnt forget Filter FM. Probably I wont have time for that for the 2.1 timeframe so that'll go to 2.2 after the OSX release.

Inside? How does it work in the detail?

in between the stages of the filter.

That's how the analog ladders work indeed but the "drive curve" is constant in them: It's a tanh function

Filter FM ooo that would be juicy! I really appreciate your dedication to sm2. I hope you prosper because of it.

Frankly, I'm really not too hopeful about that. but rather I see this business as a "marathon".

So, will you include some pre-made improved filters, or we'll have to forge those? :P

I'll see what I can do :)

BTW, here's a prototype screen from the "developer" skin:

And here's a sound sample for different types of distortion:

1. No distortion
2. Before filter
3. After filter
4. Inside filter

Yay, the do sound good.
But it'll take me some while to understand that new filter visual thing ;)

The most important thing here is: We're giving the users/sound designers the flexibility of designing their own distortions. Time will show the usability of this feature.

It might be too detailed for novice users but we can hide this level of detail by providing simpler skins.

Still we have a long way to go... but we'll go eventually :D

I think I should put this user drawable drive curve to the distortion fx as well.

Tonight I'm gonna be testing the new distortion algorithms with "digital" filters as well. For 4 pole (24dB/oct) filters the distortion will be applied in between the 2 pole sections when the distortion ordering is set to "INSIDE filter"
