I noticed, that the square waveform from ACE doesn't really look like a square, more like a bend triangle. Is there a reason for this?
Is it possible to get a (almost) real square wave out of ACE?

Post

try the LFO patched to the output.

:?: Looks like a square wave to me.

I'm confused, why is s(M)exoscope showing something completely different?

I just recorded a bit of audio from Ace. Same as Smexoscope display...

Strange :D The ace square sounds for me like a nic esquare, but in the smartelectronics scope it looks don't like a square, hmm perhaps the scope is broken?

This square has a correct harmonic content, but looks like a squre passed through HP filter with zero cutoff. Maybe reason in that filters in ACE can't be turned off (only with cutoff knob)?

I'd rather have a "normal" square, because it has almost no dynamic range ( the ACE square has around 9 db dynamic range) and you can produce a subjective louder and punchy bass with it.

Could be..

Interesting thread so far :D

Or maybe, most possible, ACE has an output DC removal filter, usually that is an HP with low cutoff.

Ya, it definitely looks like a high-passed square wave ... even more when a low pass filter removes the spiky bits.

Watching ACE's oscillators drift in a spectrogram is really hypnotic btw.

I just spent the last couple of hours working on ACE patches. Damn.

all i can think is this has something to do with the analog programing.

analog synths do not have perfect waves, giving them the character they have...

just a thought

Where do you think the terms sawtooth, square etc come from?

You can cable an osc straight out instead of through the filter
