SH-09 is good too, incredibly ballsy. Then SH-101 are quite affordable and are so cute. Still maybe a bit too expensive for what they give ( Though I bought mine for a handfull of peanuts )

If you can find one, a CS-70m is a amazing synth, but you'll have to operate by hand, as those little memory sticks should be impossible to get now. Quite a monster too.

Yes, Andromeda rather than M12/Xpander. I had a Matrix 12 around for a while, but it had some technical issues. Couldn't really program/play it, but what I heard when it actually did something wasn't so great. The 15 filter modes come at a price, because the filter can not be driven too hot. I think that design has basically been exceeded in software... Hence I'm looking for other things.

I'm observing 101s, but I'm pretty sure they're overpriced, just like JP-8s. SHs seem hard to come by. There's an SH-5... tough price though...

I havn't seen any CS-70m in the market. They're probably out of my range, as are CS-80ies.

Reconsidering this, I'd still like to make up my mind about a JP-6 and MKS-80. As storage space isn't an issue, maybe the JP-6 is preferable.

Personally I'd go with the SH-5 , that dude has been trying to get rid of it for ages now....down from $2800 - $2200....

That seems right, my rev4 MKS-80 sounds like my Jupiter 6. Urs, they're cool synths but, if you're looking for something to fill the shoes of your Memory Moog, I wouldn't recommend either. Maybe you could check out an OB-8?

i'd avoid the monosynths if i were you - all of these have active temperature control rather than tempco resistors and they are all fairly unstable with regard to tuning.

if you have the gut to deal with tuning them, modding in a tempco (Which is easy, i can tell you how, you need a 5.6k resistor and a 10k ntc tempco to insert in place of a 22k resistor, nothing else) that isn't a problem. otherwise you'll need a midi->cv with autotune functionality.

Cool! I guess I'll wait and see if I can test a rev4 somewhere, and I'm now almost certain that I'll keep my eyes open for a mint JP-6 (or a JP-8, depends on the next tax bill I guess, and if one pops up)

I'm not desperately looking for anything to replace the Memorymoog. The MM has a bit of history (previous owner was a certain film composer) and just needs to be *saved*. I'll be patient with it.

I think Obies are just not my thing at the moment. They have something about them that I never liked. The Matrix 12 was probably the final turn off. Hmm, dunno...

As for tuning, monosynths etc. I don't mind a drifting monosynth - my modular gets out of tune by just looking at the knobs labelled "Coarse Hz". I don't run a day-in-day-out production studio.

All I hate is tuning polysynths. A Memorymoog has 18 oscillators and 6 filters. That's a tuning fest unless the Lintronics modification is working properly (which on my unit it is certainly not).

My ee knowledge is a bit basic. It's like reading a partition: I can follow it slowly and figure it out but I can't play in realtime. I'd come back to you though and I'd certainly find someone in Berlin who can do this.

That said, the M12 is the ONLY 12 voice VCO based poly. So if you like REALLY big chords, it's the one to get. The Xpander is only 6 voice.

I would buy an Andromeda over an M12 today.

What about the Alesis Andromeda, it has 16 voices. Not sure if it uses VCOs or DCOs. Since the Andromeda needs a Autotune function i guess it uses real VCOs.

The Roland JX-10 has 12 voices too but it uses DCOs for sure.

A real monster synth must be the SCI Prophet 10 which could either use 10 voices
(2 Prophet 5's).

BTW the Andromeda is a synth i always wanted but never got so far. I tested it for several hours in at least 3 different shops. From the time i tested it for the first time until now i for sure spent more money for other hardware + software synths than the Andromeda would cost. Less than one year ago my local shop sold a second hand Andromeda (perfect condition) for around 1700 Ruros. Why i never got one so far is still a mystery...

definitely get the Rev 4 MKS80 - I had the rev 5 and the envelopes are clearly not as punchy...there is a comparison soundfile floating around the internet that shows this pretty clearly...OTOH I much prefer the OBs to the MKS80s...

Well, the Andromeda... I wouldn't let it slip through my hands if one coincidentally crossed my way with a to-die-for offer.

I'm however indeed on a vintage shopping spree. I already have some of that modern analogue gear, and I'm just really about to do something about those childhood memories (as listed before, Juno 6, System 100M, CS-01, SCI Pro One) which I'm happy to either bring back - or leave past me. A Juno 60 should arrive in a few days, and a SCI Pro One is waiting for me to pick up. There are still some things though that these fellas can't provide for and which I lust for.

Unfortunately modern analogues don't cut it for me yet. And the Code 6/8 does not yet have a Roland filter option other than TB303 filters.

I'm actually happy they didn't. I have crossgraded 491 items as of today, some of which were whole studios. I have a collection of pictures from gear that must have been tortured (missing keys, stains & spills, broken bodies). There were some gems though... some real gems... (and a whole bunch of fakes though)
