Lying and deception in marketing is inacceptable. Period.
Well I didn't talk in such a generalized way, I said: as long as the user can try
a demo before the purchase.

I don't know in Germany but in Italy advertising is 90% lies, always and more,
has been for years, I do think it's wrong ,but at the same time it MUST be acceptable
because it's the way it is.

This is part of it.

The other thing is, the reason for this thread is to see what users and other dvelopers think. Some good points were brought up that I hadn't had on my list of good etiquette/ethics/business conduct.

It means somewhere that is open to the public. It doesnt mean there are no rules, or that you can do and say what you want. Thats why you have to agree to the rules when you sign up.

Maybe you didn't read where I said that there are moderators to ensure rules respect,
it seemed to me that we're talking about etiquette not rules.

ps I never invited to break the rules, I think

which competition, and specifically how?

i'm sure poly-ana makes fatter booties shake harder. that's unfortunately though nothing anybody can sue anybody else about.

what you _can_ be sued for is the claim that another application will frequently crash, and that consumers should use your application instead to mitigate this issue. there is absolutely _nothing_ wrong with that claim though and it should be made. that's the whole definition of competition. when did we all become sissies with marketing? look at an ad from the 50s, "don't buy jim's pipes if you don't like wet feet, by bob's pipes, bob knows pipes".

someone, who writes an etiquette does it either, because he or she behaves already at least as good as the etiquette wants him to do or it is a public self advice, which could be even more successfully managed, if others join in too.
Urs of course is our kvr master etiquettist and so he won't have any problems in being the etiquette's fittest. But this could be a (at least a psychological) problem for others to join in.

Elliot, Poly sounds superior because I *tried harder*. Exactly as I mentioned above. It's a shame you don't realize your own product to the point of being an actual product. You're not an idiot (despite what your dad may say) and you have a lot to bring to this process... if you'd only play nice!

Hmm.. Sounds like an xhip dig. How odd and unexpected.

superior to what, in what way specifically? you're using the words of a coward - weasel words as they're called. that's my point, you can't be sued for saying such things because they're ambiguous. nobody cares who's booty shakes the hardest. they do care which company offers better support, or which product is more stable.

given that i don't offer any product - i'm a consumer - why would you even bother to mention me? that's especially confusing for your customers - that you'd fight down in the mud with an empty bucket.

We're both consumers Elliot. :help:

Who gives the orders here, alright?

according to him (or rather his boastfull rants from the last few years here at kvr) he makes the most analogue sounding softsynths around...but cant prove it cos they never see the light of day...the bloke cant even hold down a simple coding job, so its unlikely his work will be see in public anytime soon.

that "his dad said blah blah" excuse from mike was a complete lie. i hadn't told him that until several months after i was there, and he never called me by that name, it was a joke as when i was four years old "you idiot", become "yueidiot". mike referred to me as "the idiot" - "der idiot" while speaking german on the first days i was there and onward. i don't know what it was specifically, but it may have been related to my level of pay. (this was during the time we remained on an absolutely professional level, so it was definitely not a friendly label)

i don't believe i've ever said i had the "most analog" anything and if i ever did i was definitely wrong - ignorant at that point. based upon what i know now and as i remember myself saying for the past years - no software comes close to deserving the title "most analog", let alone even "a little analog".

if we can get back on topic this relates directly to false marketing claims - that "we have the most analog ..." has been repeated so many times people have actually started to believe it, and the definition of "analog" has been changed because of this. there is a term for that which i can't remember at the moment.

when something is repeated so many times and exposed as a lie that the thing being said is assumed to be untrue or even impossible rather that aiming this negative at the person/people telling the lie.
