They strive for perfection and anything else is considered lame. In my opinion plug-in "emulations" should do the same, that is if they want to be called emulations.
Sorry, but I can't leave it this way.

I'm using videogame console emulations (and VST/VSTi emulations as well), and they all do something BETTER than the original.

Example:
Better visuals (or sound in terms of plugins), unlimied usage (in terms of plugins), I'm not scared to damadge anything (my Sega Dreamcast is handled with silk gloves, since I can't get SPAREPARTS here in Germany anymore), etc.

Of course, emulations should be 100% spot on to be "perfect", but:
1) in a discrete, overprocessed mix, you give a funk about it anyway
2) if it does "more" and performs "better" than it's initial device that way, why shouldn't you go for it?

I'm pretty much fine with 90-95%, since there are NO 100% emulations out there anyway.

All bmanic tried to point out was that calling the nebula tape stuff "emulations" was inaccurate since the whole tape compression side could not be emulated. It raised an interesting point I was unaware of and I think it sucks major ass that knowledgeable people who provide new viewpoints to a discussion get loudmouthed out by crazy fanatics.

So bmanic, come back!

That movie is genious. We are really heading in that direction aren't we?

I read 6 of the 10 pages, and that seemed like plenty. Basically it went something like.... "If you overdrive the farts too hard you end up with crap, thus leaving your bottom-end over saturated with color." Then it went downhill from there.

this is why I dont frequent KVR anymore. this discussion was interesting until it descended into completely unnecessary polemics...

Why can't we all try to learn to love the things we love to hate...

Remember: a smile is a frown turned upside down

Love is - never having to say you're sorry

It's finger lickin' good...

Coke! It's the real thing.

Shock and awe!

We all have to pull together.

that how we used colortone pro in blend mode it worked well make you some step tape impulses an your good to go
That is pretty much the plug-in i use for analogue like processing, really like ColorTone Pro, i do hope that now TTD have switched over to native format instead of the pluggo format they release it for Windows as i have seen it as 'Coming Soon For MAC' on their website. I will be a bit gutted if they do not...time will tell. Im hoping :) I also use URS saturation along with the input stage options which is great, ferric gets some use plus a few others but ColorTone Pro and URS CCS Pro 2 & Built-in saturation of the seperate plug-in. URS Phat-C does a decent saturation/compression also  that one also

Edit: Oh and Focusrite LiquidMix - whilst not a tape saturation, it is useful for giving source material an pleasing dynamic saturation effect via some of the compressor models. Hoping that Focusrite do some more work on the LiquidMix with tape machine and tape formula and also add the mic pre-amp models from the LiquidChannel...that would be dope

Thing you guys seem to forget is CDSoundmaster said that his tape em is a 3 step process and the final stage (compression) has only just been developed and is set to be released very soon. Check Neb forum for his post confirming this. I think then it will be pretty much very accurate

Where can I get this old-school emulation? Looks like it could be useful for a thing or two...
