Drumkits using just one instance of Zebra

Hey Zebra folks,
I've been seeing what just one instance of Zebra can do. I got inspired by the drumkit contest that was hosted here awhile ago, and I expounded on the formula...and some things came to light:
The pros about kits like this are:

*Easy to manage.

*Instantly playable.

*They have that Zebra mojo.

*Perfect for live performance.

The cons are:

*You're going to encounter mixing problems in detailed projects because Zebra only has one Audio out
as far as I know.

*These kits in particular have no real tom drums, because of the way I used the modmaps.
(With that said, I'd love to see another modmap module or two in Zebra.)

*Depending on what you're doing with them, they may become CPU intensive.

This was mostly for fun, until I realized that you could really make spectacular kits with Zebra. I wonder if anyone would buy a bank of, say, a dozen of these kits for something like $10-$15? Of course I'd have to come up with a variety of different approaches to achieve complimentary and worthy timbres, but that's the fun part! :)

I definitely agree with what you are saying about drum kits on one module.

CPU was the biggest issue I encountered when trying to do these myself, but I really like the kits you came up with. They inspire me to make some of my own.

Makes me wonder if u-he will ever think about making a dedicated drum kit synth

Good job on the kits though. Especially like the ease of tweaking sounds with XY pads

Thanks,
Max

Mr-Bits created just such a set some time ago Z-Drums. There's a demo bank too of both kits and single hits.

Regarding the audio out issue I just load multiple instances of Zebra on different lanes to separately process the drum hits. Since the CPU usage of most drum patches is so low (fast attack, decay, one note, simple modulation, etc) I see no appreciable CPU load stacking Zebras. Good luck on your patch making, there's definitely room for multiple drum soundsets in the Zebraverse! :)

Glad you like the kits. :)
Concerning a drum kit synth, it's not an uncommon inquiry around here from what I see. I'd love to see one too, but I can't remember what's in the U-he pipeline.
Yes, you can get all kinds of sticky, glitchy sounds out of those XY pads if you're into that kind of thing. :D

No problem,

Just checked Mr-Bits out, good sounds there too, he had some really nice simulated Tom drums in the demo.
Yeah, generally for drums, CPU isn't an issue, but when you start modeling drums with long release times it can get a bit hairy. :hihi:
I think it'd be interesting to have some extra Audio Outs with Zebra. I bet Urs will eventually develop something that can do that if he hasn't already, which brings my mind back to that drum kit synth, which, I would imagine that if it existed, would greatly resemble Zebra anyways...
Thanks for wishing me luck in the Zebraverse! :)
