It is exciting! - and yeahhhh of course it has an effect on how you cast your vote...e.g. now we are down to sudden death round - we might all try to vote for the one we didn't vote for last time just to be NICE :P

The argument is that it makes the process more exciting, like an auction or a horse race. I personally hate both, so I'm on your side on this. Also, IMO, the price to pay for it is that it also makes it possible to be influenced by other people's votes and in the very worse case, for voters to swing the vote; however I have been assured that the people here are among the most honest and forthright in the world. :D

BTW: the argument does have some validity in this ZPC: at this time we have a neck to neck race... can you hear the pounding of the hooves? The snorting of the stallions? Can you feel the electricity in the air as each of these astounding Zebra presets struggles against earth and wind to liberate themselves from the clutches of defeat and claim their rightful place in history on the throne of victory?

Nah... but apparently some do :hihi:

I'm still waiting to hear from one of the preset authors via PM (you know who you are ;)). Once I hear what he wants to do we'll either do a sudden death 24h vote or call a winner.

Thanks for all the input guys and hopefully we won't keep you in suspense much longer.

Post

The tension!

The top 4 all deserve a prize, imo. ;)

No they don't! :P (joke :hihi)
There will be only one winner, who takes it all.. from the rest!

I am surprised that one of my favorite patches got only 2 points .. maybe you guys don't know how to play it! :P

Post

Update: The two patch authors are in discussion to (possibly) split the prizes. If they can come to an agreement I'll post the authors. Otherwise we'll go to a 24 hour sudden death round! :)

(first post updated with patch authors for everyone else...)

Post

Wait!... where's ***** from the author list? :D :hihi:

I will neither confirm nor deny hakey is one of those two preset authors.

In other news the moon landing was faked, 9/11 was an inside job, and JFK was assassinated by alien elvis-look-alikes.

Post

^ Yeah, I'm confirming nothing. ;)

Whilst we're awaiting the outcome, might I direct your attention to next month's ACE "Modular Madness" contest and the October patch contest: suggestions thread? Particularly the latter, where your comments would be especially appreciated.

And if anyone wants to discuss the voting system - secret ballot vs open thread voting/running tally, we could do that too.

Aaargh!
2 points to complete my u-he arsenal!

Anyway i'm really glad that a lot of people appreciated my preset.
A preset that could be really enhanced in a better way because i did it in rush just 2 hours before the deadline!

Thank you all for the presets, this was my first contest (AFAIR) and it was really fun to participate and see the evolution of the votes!

And now, target: ACE patch contest!

Post

Our patch authors have come to a gentlemen's agreement about the prize winnings.

hakey with preset Major Tomita + has requested the u-he NFR license.
Breeze with preset Corpus Fugit has requested a copy of Michael's Soliton soundset.

Thank you both for coming to an amicable decision and I want to thank everyone else for participating, we had a great set of presets this time!

Post

Didn't say nothing. :D

I would like to share some of the stuff I've learned during this contest, if someone else has something to share please do so here. :)

Helvetica:
- I was inspired by hermode tuning when I was making this one. Try to reset the oscillator's detune with this one and notice the sharpness and extra clarity will be gone.
- Delay2 was used as a modulation effect for the higher lead part only. Take a look at the modulation matrix under "Delay2:Mix" I used keyfollow on keyfollow to distort the liniar keyboard follower modulation. (you can also try velocity on velocity for an exponential velocity curve :) )
- Global section - under Send2 knob, the "Send2 Depth" is used to give the attack of the sound some extra sharp punch... next time you'll use the compressor to shape a sound for punch, you can try this instead... envelopes are polyphonic.. that means you'll still have the punch when playing multiple notes instead of an overdriving mess usually caused with a compressor in this case.

Hope these are helpful!
Cheers mates :)

Thanks once again to Brian for collecting the patches and organising this voting thread - he deserves recognition for the not-inconsiderable time and effort he puts in each month. :)
